This looks like the defining part of Israel clearing Gaza of pesky Palestinians completely. Shepherd them all into one spot, then obliterate anyone who doesn't flee. It has all the hallmarks of a carefully designed plan from the start. All they needed was the excuse to launch it.

Not that I want to be proven correct but they seem to be pandering to my fears.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I think they are actually using the 'excuse' of revenge as cover for a long-term wish on the part of right wing fanatics to claim back both Gaza and the West Bank for Israel and to leave Palestinians stateless. This isn't some knee-jerk reaction.

Doesn't really change my point.

That just doubles down on bad intentions. Not good.

Discussion hinges of whether BoE debt is included. Apparently, the government wanted to focus on this metric in 2021, so she should have been aware; however, as per many posts on this forum, I felt like I was the only person to ever consider it, and given that QT has started, I'm not sure it is sensible any more.
Anyway, everyone got to laugh at her without really understanding it at all.

In other news, Pakistan's army have struggled to fix an election.

No, it doesn't.

I don’t really understand why you’re confused. Evans msde it quite clear which stat he was using and you explain yourself why it makes sense to exclude BoE from the net debt figure, the stat Evans explains he’s using

TBB possibly isn't happy that tory policy and success claims were shot down in flames.

I'm not confused. I think my words are fairly clear.

Turns out UNRWA sacked some of its staff based on the allegations from Israel. It hasn't seen the evidence. The sacking of staff was then used by other countries such as Canada to stop funding. Canada has also not seen any evidence.

You think I'm a fan of the current government?

Are you suggesting that Israel makes stuff up?
Also, apparently it might not be legal to shoot unarmed people in hospitals.

I’m wondering why else would you be questioning the line of questioning?

When the IDF start ploughing into Rafah, just remember, they’re not scum. They’re good people. Some of them are even architects.

I tend to think that labelling people as scum is how these things start.

Of course, empty shelves will never happen in the UK... I mean, what could go wrong with letting UK agriculture wither and making it harder to import food into the UK from our nearest and biggest market for fresh food?

Apologies, I see from Rayner's take what you're getting at, but that's not the main thrust of the article itself.

The point being, of course, that within the EU, all farming was/is under roughly the same sort of constraints (environmental, workers' rights, subsidies, etc), and now the UK is out of it we've lost both the freedom/ease of movement of people and of agricultural goods, and for EU producers, if they can sell their goods within the EU, it's just a whole lot easier, so they will, especially when it comes to fresh produce of the sort that it less suitable for round-the-world shipping.
As I've banged on about for yonks, you put yourself in a vulnerable position if you rely too much on importing the stuff we need to survive, in times of shortage.

Oh for sure, ditto fisherpeople, but even if you hate them, we've still got to eat.

But not what they catch.

I think this is a thread violation as there is a dedicated thread for moaning about all the disasters that could happen due to Brexit.
Anyway, here is the Guardian waffling on about the woes of EU farmers.
1 -
Sure, it is Brexit-related, but it's wider than that, regarding the attitude to how we get food on the table in the UK. We're placing ourselves in a very risky situation if we just keep fingers crossed that food will magically appear in the supermarkets if we have the double whammy of declining domestic food production (especially of fresh food) and self-inflicted friction in importing time-sensitive fresh food.
People can hate farmers as much as they want, but that's not going to solve that problem that Rayner is highlighting or reverse the steady decline in domestic production.
