Geoffrey Soupe has been replaced by Nicolas Edet in the Cofidis team. He's exhausted apparently.

That's a shame - I understand from Eurosport commentary that he has a magnificent beard. I don't know if anyone else had noticed.

Probably from carting that beard around. It must add to the weight and drag.

I guess he wouldn't want to ride the tour in nothing less than Pho-nomenal form.

Having stewed over his decision all night, he texted his boss the next morning saying "miso tired". His boss took a moment to take stock, before cooking up a solution - Edet as his replacement.

    I'll see myself out.

Cannondale look like a strong team of domestiques where someone forgot to select a team leader. FDJ and AG2R look to be lacking any real support for the great French hopes.

FdJ is based around stagefest for Demare (and points jersey?) and have a good team for this . Pinot will just go for a stage (possibly kom?) backed only by Mollard - who also looks a good prospect for a mountain stage

Ag2R have some real strength in depth for general riding and more (Naesen and Bakelants etc) and Latour, Vuillermoz and Frank in the mountains and that team rides and rides - so I think Bardet is well protected. He also is a rider who reacts well to the race and doesn't need constant pacing

I would have thought Uran, Talansky or Rolland could potentially all realistically ride for a top ten, which isn't bad (probably not all at once obviously!). IIMO a podium is out of reach though given the field.

I assume given Uran's previous performances in the Giro they will be riding GC for him with Rolland chasing stages.

Robert Millar's preview, team by team.

It is, apparently. And has some nice bits of dry humour in there, so I'd say so.

The worst thing about the Guardian's racing coverage is the amount of comments BTL from the righteous brothers/sisters about how dirty cycling is, whilst lauding the lilywhite heroes of Rugby, Football, Tennis et al. Gets a bit nauseating.

I got stuck on the first team blurb - claims that AG2R and La Mondiale are different companies... they aren't despite what wikipedia may say.

My understanding was the ownership structure was only right at the very top; they still need to fund themselves independently etc.

Single Group. Single CEO, Single Branding. Yes, below it all gets a bit complicated, but fundamentally it is one big insurance group - and that's the group sponsoring the cycling team. My point is that wikipedia's page on the cycling team implies that AG2R and La Mondiale are two different companies and I'm pretty sure that's where the info in 'Millar's' piece comes from... it's sloppy.

@lancearmstrong 4hRolling out the red carpet for the likes of Jalabert, Virenque, Hinault (and many others) yet not inviting Jan? Pfft. Fvck ASO!

He does on Jalabert and Virenque, definitely. He's not everyone's cup of tea, but I'll always admire Matt Rendell for doorstepping Jalabert over his doping innuendo the other year.

Not sure what LA's got on Hinault though.

    Kopi Luwak,
"I am fully aware that I will be presumed to be guilty, but it's important to me to say that I am devastated by this news and I wanted to state that I have never taken any illegal substances," he wrote.

“It is my great hope that the B sample will come back as negative and clear me of any wrongdoing. Until then, I hope that those who know me, trust me when I say that I'm innocent, and that my colleagues and cycling fans everywhere don't judge me too quickly during this difficult time."

Am I reading that right, and Gaimon doesn't believe Tom Danielson really doped?

Bah, and I was quite enjoying his stuff on YouTube as well.

Tour hotels are nightmare. Always groups of girls hanging around the dining areas or bars hoping to meet a rider. People can comment about cycling being sexist, but it happens.. a lot. Many of the podium girls have reputation that pretty much every rider knows about too. Oh, vive le tour!

The problem is Virenque and Jalabert haven't been invited - they are employed by media companies.

Never mind the ASO, if I were his partner I'd kick his arse so hard he'd find himself in Tasmania

My understanding was he was mocking Thomas Dekker's autobiography.

    But internetz doesn't do context.

Especially since he's been quite outspoken in Belgium about how little the Belgian female cyclists get paid.

He's quite eloquent for a Belgian cyclist.

If that's the case, then fair play to him, but he'll need to come out and clarify that. Either way, he's offended someone...
