It was a good ride on Sunday. FatHead is the sprint king at the moment (I do a great lead out!)
I go out both days so I don't mind which day the run is on. I'm bringing my winter bike next week...

This is the link to the National Clarion if anyone is interested. They started out at the turn of the century closely affiliated with socialism (the bike riders delivered a newspaper called the Clarion) It doesn't have any political affiliation today. Now its just a National cycling organisation with a set of close knit affiliated clubs that race, tour and potter about.
I think joining the clarion means any new club can take advantage of the National Clarion and even race under that name, saving affiliation fees to other bodies.

I used to be in Fenland Clarion, and took part in Clarion races (they have track, TT, and road race champs) and there is a pretty good Easter meet where everyone gets together.

    http://www.clarioncc.org/

this link explains about how to affiliate:

    http://www.clarioncc.org/about_1.html

I'll hold off the posters and hand-out cards until we decide on the day of the run...

hi, ok, had a read and setting up a clarion is easy, all it takes is the name of 5 members, a name e.g West Lothian Clarion, and the name of a secretary in an e-mail to the Clarion org....I nominate OS 65 as secretary :P

i think if we do a formal club we have more responsibilities to meet which may prove difficult/too much hassle to a club with few people in it

as for the day of rides i am happy for it to stay saturdays

I've got some information about the Clarion. I don't mind being the secretary...

    MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS: only £6/year

Join both a local and national club
    £6 membership to National Clarion
    Plus local section’s fees
Cycle with clubmates throughout the UK
    2 magazines per year
    Annual Easter Meet
Dinner, Prize Presentation, Race & Ride
Race Competitions, TTs, road, track, cyclo-x
    Season-long points competition
Central members can race under the Clarion name
    Social events, twice a year
    15% discount from Cotswold Outdoors
    20+ sections throughout the UK
    Established since 1895

It'd be great to have another Scottish club, we only have the West of Scotland Clarion which is on the wane these days.

To get started you need to nominate a section (club within the Clarion) secretary who will collect then subs and send them on to our membership secretary. That person will also be responsible for all communications between the Clarion and your section.

Subs are £6 per member, most sections add an additional £5 to £10 for their own local subs so they have something to work with.

To be able to race, you can enter races as National Clarion CC - (West Lothian section) because the Clarion affiliates to the BCF and CTT. Apart from the Clarion's own liability insurance it does not give you personal insurance and legal aid as if you were a member of the CTC or BCF.
Most of our members are also members of these organisations just so they can get cover and also a racing license if they need to road race.

Regarding jerseys you can order a Clarion jersey and race in that no problem. Once your section gets to a critical mass you can get your own jersey designed (I'm sure you could do that easily).

Most of all, being members of the Clarion is great if you can take part in one or two events. I know your a long way away but you could get down to the next Easter Meet by train to Stamford or some other events.

Sorry guys, I have been busy at work and only managing turbo training at night but I am up for a run on saturday at 8.30 for the 16 mile loop a few times, maybe !!!

Well up for making up a club and joining the Clarion movement with a view to competing next year. We could maybe get some group turbo sessions in over the winter. Anyone know of a small hall we could hire and divide between us? I will ask about the area as I know of one that may entertain us around Westfield which would suit everyone.

Any takers on the group turbo sessions?

would be up for some turbo, 8pm would be a good time for me, not too early...spoke to my lady there about halls and she said whitburn burgh hall is known for being very cheap to rent (it figures!) although this isn't so handy for those north of the bathgate alps....

right, as for saturday, me and richyboy have an ochil 50 miler planned...do any of you fancy it as well?

I could have made last w/end but very selfishly decided on going to the Lammermuir hills just outside Dunbar. Probably the hardest hilly 55 mile route in Scotland coupled with gale force winds on the grouse moors made it an interesting day. Still it proved I still have some of my summer fitness and the views on the hills and out to sea were excellent.

I cycled for over 30 miles and only passed 1 car and a motorbike and you cant argue with that. Fathead good luck over in Fife as my bro usually finds every avialable hill :o

OS, me and Stevie will be there at 8.30 on saturday. I am looking for blades for my winter bike now so that I can get out in the rain.

See you Saturday, give me a call if you can't make it.

Ok, regarding tomorrow, I got a text from OS65 who won't be out. I am over in the Ochils with Richy. Bill may be coming over too. The meet for the Ochil run is Kinross at 8am, head up the main street street, take a right at the roundabout, then a right again down by the cobbled bit where there is a carpark, we are meeting here.

It looks like there may be no-one meeting up at the KWM tomorrow.....

Out on a very hilly 70miler with Sadiq yesterday....Never side stepped any major obstacles...This was a real tester for me after nearly 2 months of excessive eating/drinking and very little training due to work commitments...so my form was always going to be low....on the otherside Sadiq is in top form and has kept his training bang on....and it showed

Had a real good day...nice weather...good ole blether...nice cup o tea and a real stiff ride..took it real easy as Sadiq knew I wasnt at the top of my game....averaged just over 13 mile/hour for the entire ride..no pressure on the ride at all, just a good craic....the last 2 climbs proved very difficult for me...where sadiq just monstered off and waited on me at the top....especially Falkland Hill over to Leslie...thats always a tough ordeal.....just after this the cramps started with me..but to be honest I was fairly happy with my ride and couldnt have hoped for any better form given the circumstances...Sadiq cruised it and had a fair old ball on the hills...its good to see lads having a goodtime :D...and the Ochils were late Autumn gorgeous yesterday with the sun out...a good time was had and hopefully i'll get a wee bit back on track now.

    Cheers.

yesterday was brilliant, some great climbs. falkland hill really is a nice, scenic climb. this and the young lady serving tea in glenfarg was the highlight

was anyone out at the KWM yesterday?

    Sadiq,

I was out on my own yesterday, 30 miles locally, in the afternoon as I had to go into the office in the morning. Glad you had a good ride out, jealous :( that I couldn't make it but well up for it the next time.

What about a 9am start next week up at Callendar to Aberfoyle over the dukes pass and back? We could try a new route and maybe make plans for an Arran trip for a few Saturday's time ???

I will give you a call through the week.

    Hi Bill,

A real nice loop up there would be starting in Aberfoyle..then straight up the Dukes pass, around Loch Katrine...if your feeling good then alongside loch Arklet to Inversnaid Hotel for cup o tea...then back...if your only wanting 3 hour hour ride then forget Inversnaid Hotel and head back to Aberfoyle past lovely Loch Chon and Loch Ard...not too difficult but very nice indeed

    Hi Bill,

Yeah that sounds good to me....I was going to either do the Loch Katrine Circuit or the 45miler - 50miler from Cambusbarron taking in the Crow Road and Tak ma Doon.

Sadiqs out but it would be nice to meet up eventually and have a wee natter...9am sounds good for me for the 'non - inversnaid hotel' route around loch Katrine...thinks its around 45miles or so...would that be ok with you?

    Cheers

    Ok mate we're on...

What about behind the Forth Inn in Aberfoyle....at the carpark...its free parking... say 9am...at least we will get the worst over and done with quickly from there, straight up the Dukes Pass  Its a real nice run and a ideal effort at this time of year...will take us around 3 hours I reckon...and thats at a leisurely 'getting to know each other' pace.

I'll send you a private message via this forum for my contact details...no probs..

    Cheers
    Rich.

Yes today was real good, the pace to start with had me holding my lungs right enough! Thats what happens when you've had 2 months as a bad boy

Nice to finally meet Bill and Matty...a nice wee intro....heading into that wind out to Slamannan left an impression.....

P.s Matty hasn't convinced me that Fixed Wheel's the way to go :D

Yeah, enjoyed the ride good to meet Richyboy at last.

I reckon we've got a core of riders for a club. Bill mentioned meeting up to organise getting it set up. How about we get together in a pub or meet up for a curry?

I'll pick a date - How about Tuesday 20th at the Black Bitch in Linlithgow at 8.30?

I know Rich works away so we could make it a Saturday, say 17th or 24th.

    How does that sound?

that would be fine for me....lets bring along our fifteen quids (which i think is the initial payment required for us all) to give to the treasurer there and then

meeting place is fine....we could always meet at Bill's mansion in the moutain commune high in the bathgate alps, i don't think we'd need anytyhing more than a daypack and some snowshoes to get up there that time of year :D

as for this saturday, i am up for a local run....

Subs to the National Clarion is £6 per member, most sections add an additional £5 to £10. Edinburgh cycling club charge £15 a year and Dunfermline charge £12. Not sure what Falkirk charge, We'll need to be competitive, £15 sounds ok to me.

I'll be at the Korean War Memorial 8.30 t'morrow (17th)

Apologies too for my own no show the last wee while - other things on at weekends. Happy to chip in my subs. Might it be a good idea to start a Yahoo group or similar to communicate off-line, or just share email addresses? Hope to get out and see you soon.

Bill, myself and Stevie rode for about an hour then went our separate ways due to time constraints. Bill's route went up about every pass in the Alps! and it was particularly tough on my fixie. Damn good ride though and enough time to have a blather.

Who can make it to the Black Bitch this Tuesday 20th for a drink and a planning session?
