There seems to be this general feeling that smokers are hard done by.
Well no-one made you smoke to start with.
I like to ride my bike where I can, I can't ride everywhere though, it's illegal and jeopardizes the safety of others, so I do it where I can.
I'd like to be able to drink everywhere, again I can't, so I'll drink where I'm allowed to.
Because both these things are done out of my choice I'll happily accept the sanctions that are imposed on me doing them. Smokers should do the same, if you choose to smoke you'll have to do it where you're allowed. Smoking is a choice not a necessity.

I know I'm probably going to get completly roasted for saying this, but I think they should just ban smoking everywhere forever, just stop making the damn things. They have all the adverts and campaigns to try and stop smoking, that just won;t do it though, if they just stopped them altogethor there would be no problem, or atleast less of a problem, I suppose the really desperate people would find a way of getting some, make their own or illegally smuggle but most of the people I would have thought wouldn't want to commit crimes just to smoke and would probably find it easier to quit as the temptation isn't there anymore.

I hate smoke, makes my eyes screw up.

I think one of the best reasons for the ban is for the health of the barstaff. At the moment they are working hours on end in smokey environments, The ban is definatly good news for them

why would it be banned forever? If i want to smoke in my house (which I don't) why can't I?! add the fact that it makes an absolute fortune for the governement in tax.
If you are going to start banning unhealthy/unneccessary 'past times' let's get rid of all non-commercial/public road traffic and all pubs as well!
unless you spend an unhealthy amount of time in the pub or in a smoky atmosphere the chances of you dying from a passive smoking related disease are very slim, so dry up and worry about something else!
roll on 1st July when all the cool people will be in the beer garden

I wonder how much other taxes would have to be raised to compensate, if smoking were banned outright? Where would the NHS get it's money from?

I do, however, feel that alcohol should be restricted, ... somewhat out of control...

That's all already legislated against, though. The problem now is working out how to structure a police force so they can spend as much time and money on removing effectiveness and ineffciency (it /is/ a government department after all) while still being able to police things.

Roll on the smoking ban. Especially in clubs.

Hopefully it'll see the "social smokers" quit. I hope. That'll put an end to the "Ewww, just got off with an ashtray" situation that I keep finding myself in.
    <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

But it'll also make it harder for you to spot the anti-social (for want of a better term) smokers, since you won't see them smoking.

I think the government has far more orwellian plans than controlling the amount of alcohol you shove down your neck. New number plate proposals are scary[:0]

I can't think of any work environment (not saying there isn't any, but they must be very rare in this day and age with H&S regulations) where you would HAVE to be subjected to passive smoking. Anywhere I have worked you have just had to go outside.
If you do, and feel that strongly about it, give them a boot in the balls and tell them to go outside!

but, yea, i guess that's the exception. if it was me and i was that against smoking i just wouldn't work in a pub. I know nobody should have to be subjected to it if they don't want to, but up until 1st July they'll have to keep schtum!

  • Well to be honest, if you work in a pub/club thats part of the job. Like many manual labor jobs lead to lower life expectancy's, working in a pub you are going to be subject to second hand smoke. (However dangerous it really is) It's your choice to work there. I really don't see why they have to make smoking illegal, can't they make it the pub/club owners choice as to whether they want smokers in there establishment.
