Well deserved win that - she looks so young!

23 years, apparently the youngest stage winner in the two-year long history of the Tour Femmes. By a few days ahead of Wiebes (who I never, until now, realised was that young).
No idea if the youngest stage winner if you look at all the previous attempts to establish a women's Tour de France (first attempt in about 1986?)

Seemed like a good last 15 km. I had it on but it had to "radio" for much of it...

Tactical new frontier vibes having multiple hard days testing the bunch ....

Just chatting with my cycling enthusiast French colleagues (all men) and no-one keen on this race though and no-one watching. They don't find the racing interesting or of a high standard.

How do they know it's not interesting if they aren't watching it?

A good point, I get the impression they've dipped in, and dipped out again. I'm wondering a bit about who the audience is for this tour, there seem to be a lot of people at the finish lines though.
I've been watching some stages on UK-Eurosport/Discovery, some on German-Eurosport, and some on the french channel France 2.
France 2 seems to give an awful lot of its commentary time over to the history of the various chateaux and other old buildings/features being passed (more than I noticed France 2 did during the Tour de France Hommes - which is actually how France 2 now refers to the men's race – please note this, Blazing Saddles and others!)

So if davidof's french cycling colleagues happened to 'dip in' just when a chateau was shown and talked about, they might well find the racing/coverage uninteresting, partly because of how the french commentators are presenting the race - although when they do get around to addressing the racing, they are sort-of okay.

I find the male UK-Eurosport commentator the poorest, and think it's a good job he has the female commentator with him to give some better insight (don't know either who he or she is). I think the German-Eurosport commentating team the best, although on a couple of the last days, not unexpectedly, a bit one-sided. When Lippert won, they commented like South-American football commentators do when their team score a winning goal.

Checking France TV Sport's online coverage I would say it pulls in around a fifth the audience of the men's event. I will be interested to see what the TV audience figures are. The men's event in France got record viewing figures this year with daily audiences of up to 4.2 million and around 19 million having watched some coverage.

Eurosport's audience for the Tour de France Femmes is so far judged at 18% higher than last year's edition. But I don't know how many countries that covers.

    Vollering 20 sec penalty

That could be massive but thoroughly deserved. Poor team management all around.
DQ is allowed by the rules and while I think that woiuld have been wrong, 20 secs seems too light a penalty - maybe the organisers didn't want Vollering to be too far behind in the GC come Saturday.
My feeling is that 1 minute would on balance have been a better conclusion.

Having been fined once already in the race, I guess 20 seconds was the minimum in reality. The egregious nature of the offence, especially going back post telling off, IMO warranted 1 minute.

She made up 400m on the peloton in under 50 seconds. That’s probably 50% quicker than the peloton.

I think a 20 second penalty for the rider is fair. In these cases, they will stay in the slipstream for as long as they can, so the responsibility is on DS to tell them to jump to the next car.

I think SD Worx management should be punished more, so a fine, or being relegated to the back of the convoy or ejection from the race, although that should be limited to repeat offences.

Just catched up on the stage. At 10km out I didn't see that kid (😉) hanging on to win. V well done Ricarda.

SD Worx DS having a meltdown complaining that the penalty is unfair as he didn’t get a warning. Dude flew past 10 cars nearly hitting one and thinks it’s not a penalty, really not living in the real world

Frankly if they got thrown off the race for that it wouldn't have been unjust . It was super dangerous.

I understand they need to keep vollering in for the sake of the race but there needs to be some serious words exchanged . That behaviour must never happen again

Lizzy Banks offers clear interpretation of 'the rules' in The Cycling Podcast. Ok(ish) to draft her back onto the rear of the convoy but then the team car should have been behind her. She was ready to switch into the usual hop car to car back to the peloton but instead DS chose to barge dangerously, for rider and others, back up to his slot with her in tow. Not sensible.

I disagree with this. If Vollering had taken responsibility for herself and dropped off he wouldn't have carried on driving like an idiot. It shouldn't be a defence for a rider to say "But my DS said..." She knew exactly what she was doing in that situation.

Danny Stam SD Worx has been throw off race.

'he Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) confirms the decision taken today by the UCI Commissaires’ Panel officiating at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift against Mr Danny Stam, Sport Director of the UCI Women's WorldTeam, Team SD Worx.

The Commissaires’ Panel’s communiqué indicates that, after careful and lengthy review of the available TV footage, which clearly shows the particularly dangerous nature of Mr Stam's overtaking of other cars and riders during stage 5 of the event, and in view of the inappropriate comments made by Mr Stam to the UCI Commissaires’ Panel, the Panel has imposed the following penalties on the Sport Director, based on articles 2.12.007/4.7 (last paragraph) and 2.12.007/8.2.2 (last paragraph) of the UCI Regulations: a fine of 500 Swiss francs and exclusion from the event.

The UCI will make no further comment on this case.'

Well done the UCI. SDWorx were really taking the piss with that move yesterday.
Vollering is an experienced rider and 20 seconds is too light a punishment for her.

And then to bitch and moan about the penalty should have seen it increased.

Not an abandon, but Lotta Henttala kicked off for using Nibali's Magic Bottle trick

    Nasty crash.
The EF rider literally bounced on the verge and into the ditch.
Off to hospital by the looks.

Ewers riding on (!). Far too much time lost to challenge for the LR, and presumably a long way behind the peloton right now.
