Shearer thinks England will be hoping to convert their possession into goals.

    Bale baled at HT.
All england possession and territory wise, but barely an attempt on goal.
    Not very exciting.

    Good night Wales!
    Enjoy the journey home!
  • Nice free kick there!

Injured or not, Bale looks finished. At 33 and with his athleticism he shouldn't be though. Paying the price for sitting on his arris at Madrid for the last few years.

Sliding tackle straight into ankles ... But was apparently going for the ball?

    Wales looking pretty tired.

Went to running club instead of watching. It felt like it would likely be a case of battle bravely before conceding one and then getting hammered as they chase the game.

Afraid to say they didn't really, Pross. They have been very poor throughout.

With the lack of quality players, they are really going to struggle to qualify for future tournaments unfortunately.

It depends on the other game but was academic from the time they conceded the first two in quick succession.

I mean that's punditry of the highest order.

Feels like the tournament came 12 months too late for Wales. That group was one they definitely could have got out of. The absence of fight has been really disappointing, it’s been a bad few weeks for Welsh sport.

I think the loyalty shown to some of the old guard has been misplaced. Maybe he was injured but if not Bale's performance in the first half was a disgrace - they don't need him on the pitch for free kicks just play Harry Wilson he is a specialist and he'll actually put some effort in.

Bale’s interest in club football these days is questionable but in a Welsh shirt he’s still the most likely to produce a moment of magic.

He just looked off the pace this tournament - my guess is he's found out you can't just turn form in and off like a tap but maybe he's carrying an injury. Based on tne first two games I wouldn't have started Bale or Ramsey tonight.

Agreed, he is way short of the level required. Had he been playing 40 games a season for Madrid the last 3 or 4 years I think he'd still be one of the top players around. That lack of game time has cost him and Wales.

It’s a tough one when you’ve got someone who was a genuinely World class player like Bale. His form didn’t deserve selection yesterday but as a manager you would inevitably be criticised for leaving out the player who has been head and shoulders your best player for a decade.

I reckon Wales biggest problem was that qualifying was seen as such a big deal after all those years and the energy that took them there seemed to have died.
  • They did amazingly well to qualify - they have a player in the squad who plays for Swindon 7th in league 2. It's a remarkable achievement with a few good players.

It will always be their problem. For most of my life they have had some genuinely world class players who could get into almost any international side, in the 80s they probably had at least 4 players that would have started for England, but they can't get a full team of even mediocre Premiership players. That said, on the form they showed at times in qualifying they would have comfortably taken second in that group.
