Looked like the old peerless MvdP today; power & skill in abundance. A good first race from Wout on a favourable course; and a crash on the barriers, something he's never been great at.
Good ride by Vantourenhout, and Sweeck who keeps the leaders jersey. Pidcock made a poor start, and did well to get a top 10. As ever, he's course dependent....flat sand/ power courses not his thing.

Bit of a bang down there for MvdP. Future impact?

    Not looking like it today
😊 that was good to see. But did become a 'watch the procession'. Catching up on the women's now and that's looking similar.

What sort of attendance do they get at races like todays and what’s the entry fee.

Pidcock runs over MVP in order to win todays Super Prestige in Boom.

Reports that Pidcock told him, "You can't park there, mate" in the aftermath are unconfirmed.
Pidcock once upon a time, crashed in front of a camera man and asked the camera man "Did you get that?"

Dublin World Cup this weekend; course currently looks a muddy mess - maybe the weather will freeze the course.
And the entry lists look pretty pathetic; time for a rethink on the current World Cup; 14 rounds is far too many. The MTB World Cup only has 9, and that is a far bigger global sport.

    It'll definitely freeze overnight.

    Absolutely baltic in Dublin tonight.

Course well churned up today by the looks of things

Tbh I'm not going to watch a cyclo-cross race. Im going to watch WVA and Pidcock, assuming in all likelihood, they'll never race in Ireland again

Who else should I be watching out for/ pointing out to kids with only a passing interest

PFP is there... Certainly worth pointing out (to the Dads too...)

Honestly though I'd just say forget about it and just indulge in the Belgian-ness of it all.

Hopefully it freezes and we avoid a mudfest......

Going by instagram, Wout has decided to partake in a local delicacy; a pint of Guinness....

  • Not watched cx before but happened to put the telly on. Very impressive today from wva despite all the everything.

Two very good races even if the pre race favourites both won. I've changed my mind on the course, it's better than it first seemed, and the comparisons I'd seen with Dendermonde aren't fair.
I'd certainly like to see it remain on the calendar, but maybe at a time when we see bigger fields, maybe mid November. We're now in the training camp period.

Thought wva was mighty impressive on that course. Tbh I prefer more technical courses though.

The course did deteriorate/improve during the day

There was a short steep climb (where all the Varta branding was) which some the men were able to ride during their practice session - between the men's junior and women's race. I don't think anyone rode it during the race.

Those were good to watch races. Fem vs Puck. Then the big man WvA showing just how big a man he is.

Being a **** photographer, I only took a couple of snaps on the phone

This the best of them, WVA on the last lap a mile ahead

    A hugely enjoyable day

Fabulous support from the Irish crowd for WVA, Pidcock (which surprised me) and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot

We were at the "VC Glendale corner" - a Belfast club specialising in off road riding who had a rider in the women's race - they made a fabulous noise.

By a mile the biggest noise in our section was for the Irish club rider who was a distant last in the Women's race.

    Loved it

Sweeck rode it the last 2 laps, whilst chasing WVA

I didn't think bad luck could chuck anymore at WvA and Pidcock seemed to fade and then was sonly 3 secs behind Sweeck - on a course which didn't suit him. Great effort.

They need to do a bit of landscaping, not much but just a little.

They should have a XC Skier alongside too to see which way is quicker. I think that'd actually be quite a good race.

Is it me or does Tom Pidcock speak in broken English with a slight Dutch/Belgian accent during CX interviews?

Have you ever spoken to someone from up North. They are not always posh like Stevo.

Surely the XC skier would win by a distance?
Would be interesting to see though.
