Businesses are having to pay for domestic prices being capped. They always have to an extent but more so now, it gets overlooked as it doesn’t directly affect most of us.rick_chasey said:

I'd be interested in this. Tesla have factories in Berlin and Shanghai. How much more will the cars produced in Berlin now cost?
Making cars must consume a fair chunk of dinosaur squeezings and electricity.0 -
Welcome to the future, today. When signing up for technology means you can't control your own house. The Italian government will no doubt approve.

Despite working in IT and allowing a lot of personal data to be harvested through internet usage, the idea of connecting anything and everything around the house to the internet does alarm me.pblakeney said:Welcome to the future, today. Outgoing shell ceo:STAVANGER, Norway, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Europe could face several winters of gas shortage as a result of the cuts to Russian supplies, Shell Chief Executive Ben van Beurden told a news conference in Norway on Monday.
"It may well be that we will have a number of winters where we have to somehow find solutions," van Beurden said.0 -

But in the story, he admits to getting $100 sign up bonus and $25 per year in exchange for giving up some control of the thermostat.
The energy company gave him a $250 rebate over six years and he had his aircon restricted to 25 degrees on 1 day in 6 years.pblakeney said:Welcome to the future, today. When signing up for technology means you can't control your own house. The Italian government will no doubt approve.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-09-02/six-in-10-british-factories-at-risk-of-going-under-as-bills-soar
Crazy figures hereSoaring energy bills are threatening to put six in 10 British manufacturers out of business, according to a survey that lays bare the extent of the crisis facing the next prime minister.
MakeUK, the lobby group for UK factories, said that nearly half of manufacturers have experienced a jump in electricity bills of more than 100% in the past year.
“The current crisis is leaving businesses facing a stark choice,” the report said. “Cut production or shut up shop altogether if help does not come soon.”
Britain’s factory sector is already in decline, according to a purchasing managers’ index published by S&P Global this week. MakeUK’s survey said that 13% of factories now have reduced hours of operation or are avoiding peak periods, while 7% are halting production for longer stretches.
“Emergency action is needed by the new government,” said Stephen Phipson, MakeUK’s chief executive officer. “We are already lagging behind our global competitors.”0 -
An underground bunker is looking more attractive by the day. Protection from a zombie apocalypse, extreme glowyness and good insulation if there is minimal sun/cold temperatures.
The way things are going I wouldn't rule out the zombie apocalypse scenario.0 -

I don’t think all the European governments will survive the winter.
Out of cycle removal of governments, growth of support and popularity for extremist parties and extremist solutions.
Hell even in the UK already there is a growing campaign for nationalisations and mass refusal to pay bills.
It’s winter so that helps keep people off the streets but I expect some countries to have significant civil unrest.
I think we’re going to see one genuine far right party take power in Western Europe by 2025.0
