A quick Google suggests he's already 5kg lighter than Pog.

Maybe it’s their respective builds but he looks 5 inches taller to me.

Why would their height matter? You were saying it was a power to weight ratio issue.

Really enjoyed watching the Basque country tour. Some great attacking racing. But overshadowed by Milan Vader's injuries.

Which are still a bit difficult to establish.
The Dutch media claim that he's in an induced coma hasn't yet been confirmed by the team and the claim has so far, only been repeated by the BBC.

Anyhow, it's Monday, so all we have got is this: Another Turkish sprint.

Good race has been the Itzulia Basque, cracking stage today. He says after catching up, again. So Remco hasn't got the engine for the steep hills?

Remco most certainly does have the engine. It's a power to weight issue. 2kg lighter and he'd have won that comfortably. 7kg lighter and he'll be challenging Pogacar.
Where's he going to lose 7 kg without a significant losss of power?
One of the most entertaining 7 day races I have seen in a very long time, really fascinating viewing.

T'internet reckons Remco is 61kg - surely that can't be right, he's properly built by the looks of it, almost more of a sprinter physique.

The Tour of Turkey was not without incident.
High winds caused both echelons and crashes.
Nairo Quintana crashed twice, first time into a ditch but he escaped unhurt. The second time he was not so lucky, crashing just outside the 3km mark. He looked a bit bashed about but possibly worse of all was the loss of significant time.
He now sits 2 minutes down on GC.

Did Ewan drop his chain in the sprint? He was dropped off very well, and suddenly stopped riding

Because someone who is shorter has the potential to be lighter. Pogacar has minimal scope for losing weight. Remco has plenty, based on his current weight. Check out the picture on the cyclinews report of Evenepoel's reaction to his loss and compare his frame to the Trek rider behind him. The trick is to do it without losing power.

If you thought that the first two stages of Turkey were flat...

Also today we have the first stage of The Tour of Sicily.

While both of the above have live coverage, I don't think that Paris - Camembert does....

    ....other than maybe here.

Tour of sicily - Caruso is riding for an Italy team. I guess because it's his so close to home and his team isnt going.

How unusual is that for a rider that good?
  • Italy and GB often have national teams in these kinds of races

From memory Nizzolo and Viviani have raced for Italy in recent years and Ben Swift (I think) has raced for GB

Today looks like a flat, scenic, coastal course with a slightly uphill, straight final 250 metres with no sprinters in the field.

I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but Nacer Bouhanni had a really unfortunate, not to mention serious incident yesterday.
A spectator wandered onto the course just as the peloton arrived.
The end result has seen Bouhanni flown back to France with a fractured vertebra in the lower back region. Another rider had a broken elbow, which required an operation.

Be warned, the footage ain't pretty.

Marshal took one for the team there. I can't work out if he minimised the collision or made it worse but suspect more would have gone down if he hadn't attempted to pull the idiot out of the way.

I thought similar was going to happen last Sunday at AGR where the race was approaching a spectator walking on the edge of the road with his back to them but he got out of the way in time. Some people really do seem to live on a planet of their own thinking they are in a bubble from the world around them.

It's another busy Wednesday. First up is the Queen stage in Turkey.

Followed by a rolling stage inland in the South of Sicily.

How about a little lump to warm the legs, then some downhill before all that flat?

Turkey really needs to upgrade it's parcour to justify it being 8 stages. No surprise that Nairo Quintana isn't hanging around for the rest of the race, after his crashes and with nothing to interest him.

Sicily today looks somewhat more interesting.

If you’re in town, these are the dishes to look out for: Cuddriruna, Nmugliulati, Coddra chi sardi, Minestri e Pasta di Muntirriali, Cacateddri, Brioscia ca granita di limuna, Gelatu a pezzu. Raffadali, the home of a famous pistachio variety, is less than 30 minutes’ drive away.

Fair play to Jez Cox for saying this is more interesting than the Tour of Turkey

And also to Brian Smith for making the Duran Duran reference

There was a really nasty crash inside the final km.
Jasper Philipsen got squeezed and ended up putting a couple of his team mates into the barriers. One looked to have broken a CB.
    He still finished second.

And in Sicily, it was very pretty and 19 year old Fran Miholjević attacked from the five man break of the day 10 km from home and won by 41 seconds to take the leader's jersey.

Turkey's 6th stage is the only other one that ends by going uphill, although it's not what I would call tough.

Meanwhile, Sicily has definitely opted for the big finale.

Also live on gcn/Eurosport today is the Grand Bescancon Doubs which features a very steep finishing climb.
Pinot is among a decent start list.

Couldn’t get very excited about this (dull commentary) and camera missed key moments in final km.
