Was going to say what a ridiculous Tweet. The Kia eNiro, Tesla Model X etc. are SUVs. That person is just displaying their ignorance and / or prejudice

Your engine might be cleaner but now all engines are very clean. Most of the particulate pollution comes from tyres and brake dust. Bigger, heavier cars create far more of this. Your so called “clean” SUV is anything but. Stupid things.

Its also the same size as a golf, just a bit taller, but it's the shape of an SUV. I imagine there are many cars on the road much, much heavier than mine. I also didn't spend loads of money, bought second hand 3 years old. Its very practical and much easier for both myself and my wife to lift a baby and a toddler into than a low down car.

Edit, just looked it up. Its the same weight as the lightest Mk7 golf. Some Golfs are 250kgs heavier. So in summary, you don't know what you're talking about

They're also quite, if not very shite.

Want something impratically big on the outside but smaller and with less load space than a normal estate on the inside?

Want an unaerodynamic brick that drinks loads of fuel?

Want something that handles like a blancmange?

Want something that won't fit into most normal parking spaces?

Want something that as you drive along people just shake their heads at you?

Want to feel like middle management?

    Don't want to look individual?

Want somethong that you can zoooooooom through 30 and 40mph limits in like they don't exist?

    Want a child killer?

Then Sir, we have just the SUV for you. Come here and swallow this hyperbole. You can also pay a shedload for it.

A good car can do track days when needed and can be great fun on the road when the opportunity arises. Mind you, I enjoy mine even when I'm just rumbling round the burbs. Noise, sense of occasion and all that.

You don't wanna be doing a track day in your own car though!

I guess I'm boring and figure the temptation to gas it on a public road in a car is probably something we don't need. Been on the receiving end of that on my bike too often.
I used to do just that - own car for trackdays. As did a lot of people. Turning up to the events where cars are provided or you rent a track car is OK for the occasional event but if its a regular thing/hobby as it was for me, having your own made sense.
how does insurance work for that?
Used to insure for specific track days through a specialist insurance firm, as clearly your normal policy doesn't cover that sort of thing.
back in the eay days of track days there used to be lots of 1 vehicle RTCs with no witnesses just a few miles from tracks the day after track days.

    must have been coincedence
I once had a clutch fail 1/2 mile from a race track that needed the RAC to take the car and passengers a long way home within policy. Coincidence? We were just out for a long drive, honest.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Yep, did hear a few stories about cars getting towed onto the road and the loose parts getting scattered around the 'crash' site. The worst any of us lot did was nip down to the local Shell station for a top up of Super without taking the slicks off.

All cars have to pass the same NCAP tests which included pedestrian safety. Mine is NCAP 5 and far exceeds the required score for pedestrian safety. I know what you're getting at with regards to height of bumpers etc, but not all SUVs are the same.

That, of course only comes into play if you have an accident, but I'd wager you're far more likely to be in an accident if you speed and generally drive like a cnut.

those who drive SUVs generally don't because they shelled out a load of cash for something useless.

they are like the worst possible combo if all cars forced into something marketing hyperbole, naivity and ego has convinced people to buy.

never done that in the Anaconda or the Volvo estate with massive wides we had before with 2 bambini.

plus we had more boot space than you.

so did the 70,123,564 people who had kids and estate cars before the marketing departments got involved.

those are deffo contributing factors but you'll generally be involved in an accident if you're not very good at driving, haven't taken advanced training and drive around in an SUV cocooned to the world thinking that because you have NCAP 5 you aren't going to cause major fricking trauma to a kiddie as you take their head and chest off.

    Hahaha! If only you knew!

You didn’t specify what lightweight pointless vehicle you had, but in general what I said stands. Plus I don’t accept that any VW built after
1992 is a Golf. They became bloated jelly moulds after that.

My ten penny worth. All SUVs I’ve driven are just jacked up small cars. Estates are much more practical and as they are not trendy they are much better value for money.
