I'm intrigued where Hayter's career will go. He climbs well and can hold his own in tough sprint finishes. GC rider, Classics?0

What happened to Qhubecka? I was on the climb after the turn and they were in pieces. Had some of them gone down? It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0

Why is the TV coverage so crap on the TOB?
Virtually every other race in the world always shows TV camera angles from in front of the riders, but on the TOB it's nearly always from behind the riders. It's crap. You can't even see sprint points contested because the bloody TV view isn't in the right place.

I don’t think so. They were behind Ineos and dqs with just over 3km to go. By a very similar margin to the final margins. I believe the ‘puncture’ came after that.mididoctors said:Jumbo would probably have won that if they didn't have that puncture ... Or very very very close

I've always thought it looked amateurish. I assumed it was the British roads until the TdF start in Yorkshire and the TdY.The13thcog said:Why is the TV coverage so censored on the TOB?

I couldn't understand them not having a bike following the bigger teams today. Most of the footage seemed to be helicopter shots through gaps in the tree canopy. Budgets and a lack of cameramen / directors with cycling experience maybe? The TV coverage of domestic UK races always has a similar look.The13thcog said:Why is the TV coverage so censored on the TOB?

Brexit? The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Was thinking the same but with Brexit being the issue. Covid makes more sense though as short-term working shouldn't be an issue with Brexit.RichN95. said:It might be that they usually hire in specialist moto riders and cameramen from the continent, but can't this time due to Covid restrictions

It's possible that the number of military bases in Cornwall meant that a helicopter couldn't fly but I seriously doubt that. I suspect it's way more likely that it's just about money.
I don't think it helps that British roads are hedge lined and narrow so a helicopter isnt all that useful. Some of the shots of Dartmoor were brilliant, for example.
Apparently our 4 or 5G network is miles behind the continent too (hmmm..?) which always hinders UK TV Coverage. We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

The helicopters only appear in the last hour or so . Budget thing I thinkddraver said:It's possible that the number of military bases in Cornwall meant that a helicopter couldn't fly but I seriously doubt that. I suspect it's way more likely that it's just about money.

When they last came over the Pennines, the helicopter had to go to Newcastle to re-fuel, and missed some of the best scenery/action.0

Yeah, it was at the start and at 100 odd to go at least (as in it flew over the top of us)mididoctors said:

It didn't cover the Dartmouth/Kingswear stretch for sure - there were some shots of Totnes, which from memory I think were taken before the race even got there - but nothing in the middle section. A shame, as Dartmouth would have looked stunning - I did briefly wonder if it was the naval college that meant they couldn't, but it's on Google Maps clearly enough so... The coast road could have looked great seen from a helicopter out to sea, too.ddraver said:

Very Controlled day ... The Cornish and Devon stages have this beat so far ..."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. Yes, if you like fog.mididoctors said:Very Controlled day ... The Cornish and Devon stages have this beat so far ...
So far, all three followed the usual pattern, although the Devon stage had more little lumps and was very pretty."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Long climb by UK standards but I'm surprised how low the gears being used are.0

Tough finish today though and less time left in the race to make up for any mistakes if the break gain time.mididoctors said:Very Controlled day ... The Cornish and Devon stages have this beat so far ...

Tough looking road this one. Undulating, exposed moorland makes me glad I don't ride much anymore!0

Bit of tactics ...teams sending riders across to the break"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0
