Dan Martin was spat out of the break yesterday...

De Gendt hasn't really had a stage to perform on.

Some riders have had very quiet participation so far this Tour, including De Ghent and Dan Martin. Recovering from injury, or something else going on?

Dan Martin was in the break yesterday wasn't he?
Was he? I had the ITV4 stream on from 12ish (sometimes in background), but didn't hear him mentioned or recognise him.

I wonder if Cav has said he's not feeling it today after yesterdays efforts, let JA go out in the break, Cav can rest up, and hit it hard tomorrow.

Just noticed he's wearing a normal jersey rather than a skinsuit. Don't think he's going for it

A nice thing about that WvA Vignette, and his demeanour in general, is that he is starting to realise that he has a touch of star quality and to enjoy it a little...

The obligatory soft break transition stage

Well softish... Could be crosswind action later

Not even when he was first over the first cat 1 climb of the day?

We've stopped talking about Dan Martin and gone back to talking about the Ardèche then?

de Gendt was saying that the race is just too quick this year. His numbers are still good but what would previously have got him into the break has had him in the grupetto. Said he will probably retire when his contract ends if it continues.

As someone else pointed out he looked to be chasing the KoM points and took the 1st cat climb before getting spat out.

I think he may have been in one of the breaks in the Alps too.

Doesn't surprise me. Gilbert is 39, GVA 36, de Gendt 34...

I guess it depends on whether we can believe them when they say their power numbers are still what they were or whether father time has come knocking.

ASO trying to rig the lanterne for Cav. Disgusting. I expect it will get a mention in tonight's update

Sometimes being right holds no joy.
I said today would have early, then no crosswind action, but this is worse.
I said it would be over quickly but it's a training ride.

I don't think there's much doubt the racing has been full on this year. I remember a Giro a couple of years ago where we were all saying it was so much more fun than the Tour because of the chaos full on charge from the gun each morning.

I don't know if this is the new usual, or just this tour edition. But Rolf and Chris Anker are suggesting the kids just don't ask permission any more. There's no "pay your dues for two seasons, then you can race", they want to race and they want to race hard, stuff the old guys if they don't like it.

Belgium is definitely raising some eyebrows, but because WvA is one of them they're being a bit quiet.

Break is in the exposed section now, so 10 minutes till the start of the last possibility of interest for the peloton.
