On the final sprint Nacer was in the picture, surely the Ewan / Sagan crash will be attributed to Bouhani for being near them.

    Nice whale picture!

Does Sagan do a lot wrong there? He's just following the wheel, isn't he, and then Ewan tries to push in? Or am I really misreading that

Just noticed Ewan is shown as finishing with no time gap, though 178th - implies he has at least got up and crossed the finish line under his own steam even if his tour is over.

He was trying to reclaim the wheel that Sagan had bounced him off a bit earlier. It looks like he was so focused on that he didn't notice Merlier move.

It looks like Ewan gets himself on the right of Meliers back wheel and realises he’s not got a lot of room between himself and the barrier. Then he seems to move left and touches the wheel.

Cheers. The only bit of it I've seen is the short clip in this thread. So 6 of one etc?

That looks incredibly positive for Geraint all things considered. Assuming Roglic is able to continue he's going to have to find a new tactic which could be interesting, watching Pogacar and fighting him for bonus seconds isn't going to work now and I suspect he's going to be a bit sore in the TT.

From the overhead it looked like Sagan bumped Ewan and then he lost his wheel taking Sagan down.

Ewan was trapped against the barriers and moved left clipping the wheel.in front I think
That was how I saw it too.

Yeah, after looking at it. He's following the riders in front who are going right towards the barriers. Ewan looks squeezed but probably because he's trying to not get boxed.

Schelling rolled in second last and even claimed 20 bonus seconds from somewhere or other (at least I'm fairly sure it's a penalty). Absolute superstar.

Looks like Merlier stopped pedalling for a split second to move to the right, and Ewan just lost his front wheel by trying to move to his left. Sagan was just there.

From the head on, it doesn't look like there was a touch of wheels, Ewan just suddenly turns left.

    Maybe there was actually.

Well, Ewan wiped them both out and Sagan didn't do that, so I would say 100% Ewan's fault, but the griping is about the way Sagan is always bouncing riders around and he does that in this sprint too. This time he didn't cause any accidents though.

He didn't do anything wrong for the actual crash, but he was barging people out of the way prior to that.

Roglic might be out, seems he may have fractured his coccyx

That's a real shame. Don't think he did anything wrong either, just got ridden into by Colbrelli.

I can't see that Ewan did much wrong there TBH, the guy in second wheel moves across and leaves him nowhere to go

Ewan didn't finish, he's done his collarbone and went off in an ambulance. Didn't need to technically cross the line, was placed last and given time of the group he was with

Cavendish's wheel broke in the incidents so he couldn't get involved in the sprint.

Thought it was still a DNF if you didn't cross the line, regardless of where it was?

Convinced Cavendish said he'd just seen Ewan coming across the line and he didn't look good, but I suppose Cavendish might have meant as he (Cav) was coming in rather than Ewan.

Well it seems as though everyone involved is thoroughly annoyed with today’s stage, except for Alpecin.

Have to feel very sad for those that sustained injuries. The kids were watching after school and aren’t too keen on watching again after seeing how Roglic ended up looking.

I did too - maybe just an automatic thing when they moved his bike and the transponder registered ?

The rules changed at some point. Abdu cross the line in the 90s in order to win green and looking back it is not sensible.

Ah, y'know what - I think this came up as a potential loophole in the LR, now I see that tweet, as I was joking about Valls having found the loopholes of all loopholes to gain infinite time:

I'm kind of torn here, because although I do think you're right, I also think that finding a loophole whereby you can be infinitely delayed but never officially timed out is an absolute Lanterne power move. Like a Japanese soldier bravely fighting the second world war alone on some godforsaken coral atoll into the 1970s, Valls is metaphorically still out there somewhere on the course. Although unlike the Japanese soldier it appears he won't be running short of soap, so that's something.
