That's two Herne Hill alumni making their Tour debuts this year then.

A surprise selection by Bahrain with the omission of Padun

Maybe they don't trust him either.

Poels, Wright, Colbrelli, Haig, Haller, Mohoric, Teuns, Bilbao

Strange choice, weren't the bookies convinced Padun was among the favourites?

The bookies were convinced that some money had been placed on him and adjusted the odds accordingly

Well someone got excited off the back of a couple of good rides at the Dauphine when he had lost a stack of time early on.

I am genuinely surprised he isn't going to the Tour though, would have been a good shout for the KoM jersey.

Simon Yates is in the Bike Exchange team which surprises me. It also means no Yates v Yates at the Vuelta probably.

Other British riders: C.Swift and McLay in the Arkea team.

    British riders

    Definite: Thomas, G-Hart
    Likely: Rowe, Froome, C.Swift
    Possibles: Cavendish

    Anyone else?

    Simon Yates?
    So far we have:

    Arkea-Samsic: Swift and McLay
    Bahrain: Wright
    Bike Exchange: Yates
    Ineos: TGH, Rowe and Thomas
    ISN: Froome

That's the most British starters since 2017, when ten riders started. Nine teams left to still confirm their start list, unlikely that any more Brits will make it.

Simon Carr must have a shot of making the EF team.

Has he confirmed his nationality yet?

He has two, but currently uses the UK one for cycling. I don't think he has changed recently.

    Madness.

I am glad. Current peloton is a bit short of people with a character that cuts through onto the screen.

Glad this didn’t come to be. Happy to see Cav in.

Oh my word. Gutted for Bennett, but really looking forward to seeing one of the World's craftiest sprinters lead out by the best leadout in the peloton.

I'd be surprised if they made him ride back-to-back GTs in his first year in the WT. But going on how my prediction above aged today, I'll pipe down. :/

Still trying to process the Cavendish news, if I'm honest. Shame for Bennett, but Cavendish's return to some sort of form has been one of the feelgood stories of the season - mostly because he seems to be having a whale of a time doing it. And he's serious box office still, isn't he?

The real loser might not be Bennett but Fabio Jakobsen, who was down for the Vuelta and who I guess now risks being bumped.

Reading the article (via Google translate), it sounds like there's been a breakdown of trust in the messages Bennett was giving the team about his fitness.

It also adds a bit more meaning to the comments about not taking Cavendish as a wild-card extra sprinter as it'd unsettle Bennett - were they already thinking he was a bit fragile?

Not entirely sure why Lefevere has to go through the media with that. Seems like something they could hash out privately. Lefevere doesn't seem like a "cover your ass" type person. Maybe he is trying to motivate Bennett indirectly, because there is a breakdown in direct communication?
Seems harsh and somewhat unjustified looking at Bennett bringing in decent results rather consistently.

Love it for Cavendish. Will definitely make the Tour even more special.
