Who have they beaten in those 29 games? Netherlands.

we can only beat who is in front of us and we are doing that very well.

Italy impressed again this evening. They look like they could give France a game.

Too soon to say - they have played a lot of soft teams.

Chucking loads of people forward is all very well against teams who only want to draw but it could be a different story against good opposition.

From what I've seen in round one I think you're mad or overly patriotic if you think that France aren't THE team to beat, by quite some way. (though xg had Germany the winner so...)
I said they'd give them a game, not necessarily win. At the end of the day, they're Italy, so even if they have this more expansive style now, they'll be a bit more cautious against France. If fit, they'll still have one of the best defensive pairings in Chiellini and Bonucci in the tournament.

Anyway, "too soon to tell" and "from what i've seen in round one II think you're mad or overly patriotic if you think that France aren't THE team to beat" seem to be incongruous...

Not all teams (read: only Switzerland) will be so easily sucked into the blatantly obvious Italy tactics.

That said, they look razor sharp and very fit.

The friendlies in that period have been a draw with Ukraine, wins against the USA, Moldova, Estonia, San Marino, Czech Republic.

If they'd managed to play and win the cancelled games against England and Germany, that might have been more interesting. As it is, they might be great, but they might just be good.

Not sure if you lot are just winding MF up but this Italy team are very good and a game against France could go either way

Although I'm English I still like to see Wales and Scotland do well. The lack of reciprocation does irritate me a bit. I just don't see Nicola Sturgeon cheering for England later in the stages when Scotland get knocked out.

Not at all, I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the whole lot. I just don't think they'll find other teams happily chasing - and failing to win - the ball in their own 18yard box and thus allowing the break (five times in one half of football).

Had an interesting chat yesterday with someone from Scotland who has just move home from England. They find the attitudes here to be extremely small minded and essentially racist and a bit embarrassing.

It really is a racially monochrome and very sad little place these days.

    Grazie S/C - this completely.

No one expected us to be any good at all so all this is a bit bewildering to be truthful, but yup - anything at all could happen.

We've seen Pogba do nothing, Griezman be anonymous...... We get a decent couple of breaks, strong defence.....

It's a shame to hear that. I've been there skiing in the past a few times and done some of the Munros. The people seemed pretty friendly but they were quick visits.

Well yes, but it has got drastically worse. Everything here is defined by reflection with England. Defining yourself by hate is not a good thing. It isn't friendly sporting rivalry any more, for example.

Did you hear Sturgeon blamed England for extending restrictions here yesterday, by the way? Even though she has exexlrcised border control herself throughout. You would think she's just keep her head down about feeling stupid because she made the same bad decisions as Boris based on the same information.

But no, it's England's fault all those Scots imported the delta variant.

Febrile doesn't quite do it justice.

    Anyway, back to football....

Typical punditry though, magnificent Italy look world beaters after beating Turkey 3-0, Wales beat Turkey 2-0 (should have been more really) and it's because Turkey are a poor side.

Hmm, didn't Wales top the group containing England at the last Euros and then stay in the tournament longer?

That was also the first time in my life I got to test the "we would support Wales if England weren't playing" and I would say it was roughly the same amount who did as the Welsh people who will support England. Oddly, in football, there tends to be less animosity to England from Welsh fans than Scots and more chance of the Welsh supporting England than you get in rugby. I remember watching an England match at my rugby club and most of the people in there were supporting England which wouldn't occur for a rugby international. I'm firmly in the ambivalent camp when England play - not bothered if they win or lose but get fed up with the relative media coverage they get before and after a game.

No just febrile and populist. For the "English" replace with "metropolitan elite".

Populists need an enemy to be a threat to the common man. In Scotland that's moronic English leaders (some sympathy there tbf), and in England it's "metropolitan elites" who don't understand that all the working man wants is to keep stuff wh!te and like it was in 1950s & 60s when they were children and life was golden.

    I'll shuttup now, wrong thread.

I am looking forward to Holland, though it is a stressful watch as they are so leaky.

Trust me Surrey, as a Welshman who has lived in England for many years it is definitely out there.

There is one chap who drinks in our pub who verhmently hates the Welsh and never tires of reminding you, ironically he has a holiday caravan in......yes North Wales!

The impression I get is that comments about the Welsh are seen as being fair game, and given mostly in jest. That's not to say they aren't offensive if you are Welsh. The issue with the Scots is a bit more venomous. There is increasing anti Scots "bu88er off or shut up" sentiment, in response to the relentless "if your fault" and "we are better" sentiment coming the other way.
