That was pretty awesome. What a competitor.

Unbelievable player. 6 months out to get back to this level and two sets down. This shouldn’t be possible!

Whatever else, this is exemplary social media public relations...

Outstanding work by someone on the team.

Who is the eurosport anchor, ex player?

Tim Henman commentating/studio. Mats Wilander studio.
Thanks Sean, I meant the main woman presenter in the studio, whose accent I couldn't place, but thought might have been French.

Ah, a quick google reveals it is Alizé Lim - current pro player.

That match was amazing - I watched the first 3 and a bit sets on the turbo.
After he lost set 2, I feared the worst, and even when he gainfully fought for the 3rd set and took it, I still had my doubts - it just seemed such a huge ask.

As the game went on, his serve improved, and I think his game did as well, less drop shots (Save for the last set) and he just seemed to really playing well - great shot choices, winning rallies he had no real right to.

Also think Medvedev tailed off a bit, possibly because Nadal's game improved.

Agreed with Henman's opinion on the chap coming onto give Med a leg massage, it should be for injuries (new or existing) only imho, if he's feeling a bit tired or jaded, then it's because he isn't fit enough - I appreciate you could argue it would be easy enough to fake.

The final set could easily have gone either way, and it was right in doubt until the very last game - so pleased for him, probably his best grand slam performance, although I suppose you could argue that the Wimbledon 2008 final against Federer could possibly be better.

Not convinced I have ever seen a comeback that good before, and definitely not in any final I have seen - and what's more, aside from a stretch in set 1 when Nadal lost a tranch of games in a row, there was to my memory no mini collapse by either player where they lost several games, and gave away a set cheaply - everything had to be worked for incredibly hard.

Medvedevs actions and chat to the umpire during the game did not endear him to me, or evidently to the crowd, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear his interview afterwards which was just as gracious and polished as any of the top 3.

When Federer, Djokovic and Nadal do eventually retire, and I suspect within close proximity to each other, if in fact Federer does come back, that is going to be the vacuum to end all vacuums, and I wonder if there will be a few barren years before some new stars appear who will have longevity.

Ah yes, the Serbian authorities, who famously were very open about their behaviour in the 90s.

Sometimes he looks brilliant, destroying opponents 6-1 6-0 with his steady backhand and loopy forehand. Other times looks very average. Can’t make him out.

Fair play, only the 4th Brit in the top ten since the rankings started.

    Harsh!

Kill a cyclist and you will probably get off. Defraud some money stuff and get a custodial. Something is very wrong here.

Good to hear Nadal has knocked out Djokovic in the French Open, he's now on for his 14th!

I found the thread again quickly by searching for "novax".

Cracking performance too, looked like djok was all set to take it to 5 sets, before nadal came back to force it to a tie break.

I'm rooting for him to get his 14th.

    Amazing match.

Whatever you think of Djokovic the man, he is an incredible competitor. As they said on commentary, after Nadal's start to the match there's nobody else who could have come back into it like that.

Good to see Rafa come through in the end though.

I stupidly thought Djokovic would win as he had an untroubled run to the quarters. Nadal didn’t look at his best in the last 16 and the foot injury that kept him out of action at the end of last season had flared up again recently.

Comets the hour, cometh the man. Unbelievable player, he shouldn’t be able to still play like that with what he’s put his body through over the years. Hope he can get himself up for two more games. Zverev certainly doesn’t deserve to beat him.

Fourteen French now and 22 slams.
It is just staggering the longevity to be at the top still in a popular competitive sport.

Casper Ruud was not only a student at the Rafael Nadal Academy by Movistar in Mallorca, the Norwegian was also a fan of the record grand slam winner as he recalls crying in front of the television as a kid when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated the Spaniard in the first round of 2008 Australian Open. In 2018, Rudd got the opportunity to train at the Academy named after the Spanish great as an up-and-coming 19-year-old. The rising star called that a "childhood dream [turned] reality".

See, I don't really mind they've already done it in terms of a slam/s. I just like to see them having a crack at it.

Meh. I'm old enough to remember any British player reaching the second week was cause for major celebration. Considered a successful tournament. First week is the warm up.

Never mind. Wimbledon will be sponsored by Ralph Lauren, who are associated with the yachting crowd, which goes in the sea, which is salt water.
