Watching the wailers against Munster. I thought the patronising 'red indian wail' had been put in the bin, but clearly not.
Competitive game, but can't see anything other than a wailers win today.0 -
It’s hard to take a competition seriously when only one of the six teams has a fully professional squad.ddraver said:France Dammes self-sabotaging their own GC win at home.
Brian Moore hasnt changed at all...
Still, the BBC have gone over and above to promote it as being ranked above the men’s professional leagues."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
WRU are once again proving their incompetence. Beddau RFC are refusing to fulfill some of their fixtures, basically away games, whilst still playing home matches. The WRU can't sanction them or award a walkover to teams they were supposed to play as they relaxed rules during the Omicron surge and failed to change them back afterwards (these cancelled games aren't Covid related, they are just refusing to play). The league was already a farce this season but this has made it utterly pointless.0

That's ridiculous, but yet another example of the WRU's..............................consistency.Pross said:WRU are once again proving their incompetence. Their new funding idea is a recipe for disaster too. They are completely out of touch with grass roots rugby and have little interest in the game in Wales below international level.
P.S. Hope you got to see George's return, yesterday evening. Quite the derby match, too."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
All Blacks beaten for the 5th time in their last 6 matches today.
Has the aura gone?
Are referees applying the laws eqaully to both sides finally?
Are their coaches useless?
Long may it continue!0 -
Haven't looked it up but when was the last time one of the "big 7" (SA, NZ, Aus, Eng, Wal, Arg, Ire) lost 6 on the bounce?Dorset_Boy said:All Blacks beaten for the 5th time in their last 6 matches today.

I see that the Pooler are back in the promotion game, after yesterday, WRU Community Game Board, (which features representatives from the amateur clubs) overturned Nigel Walker's planned to cut the number of premiership teams to 10.Pross said:WRU are once again proving their incompetence. Instead, they are going to increase from 12 to 14.

Yeah, hopefully but we’ll see. It still needs to be formalised I believe and even then it could change at any random point of the season based on the WRU’s previous form. It’s going to be tough getting top two with Bargoed and Neath but at least it looks like we’re going to have a meaningful season for once.blazing_saddles said:

What’s up with English clubs and tax bills? Just looking on BBC Sport and saw both Wasps and Worcester seem to be having some issues.0

No gate money during Covid. Wasps have a big stadium, financed by debts thath are difficult to roll over, and don't get the gates, and have basically no conference revenue to 2 years.Pross said:What’s up with English clubs and tax bills? Worcester a bit more surprising, but likely to be down to no crowds and no conference revenue.0 -
Not to mention the bar receipts.Dorset_Boy said:

I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I thought Wasps were tenants in a ground share but have lost track where they actually play these days. Is it them that are now at Coventry?
Worcester are looking to do a fairly major regeneration at their ground with hotels and leisure facilities.
Possibly being naïve here but if they weren’t making money during COVID surely they wouldn’t owe any tax?0 -
Do not most RU clubs really on money from their sponsors I.e people in the city.
Some of the London clubs can’t possibly exist on gate receipts as their crowds aren’t very big.0 -
Wasps own Stadium Coventry which hosted the Commonwealth Sevens. Their issued a shed load of debt at high interest rates to buy it from an effectively bankrupt Coventry City FC about 5 years ago.Pross said:I thought Wasps were tenants in a ground share but have lost track where they actually play these days. The salary cap has been cut back a lot this season though there were loopholes for existing contracts.
It's most likely VAT that HMRC are after, rather than Corporation Tax.0 -

Quins get c18k I think, Salaries about 2 men and a glory hunter, but were owned my Nigel Wray until they got busted.
Bath owned by a billionaire.
Tigers are owned by their shareholders.
Exeter effectively owned by gthe guy who founded SW Telecoms.

That’s sort of what I meant. Which is based on what my Rugby League supporting mates tell me.Dorset_Boy said:

No idea how RL survives - regional game, only seriously played on M62 corridor and in NSW and QLD. Gates aren't any higher than the likes of Bath, Gloucester, Saints, Tigers, Quins. TV money way, way lower. No big international revenue, governing body doesn't own anything.0

Wow, how the mighty continue to fall, All Blacks beaten at home for the first time ever by Argentina!0

I was told this in confidence, earlier today, but now the news has broken. I know some folks have had issues with his commentary, but sadly, not any more.
His daughter was with him at the time.

The wife just told me, seems very unexpected. He was at the tail end of his career when I started watching Pooler and my wife used to look after his son in nursery. Whilst I know many didn’t like his commentary I quite enjoyed listening to him and hearing his squabbling with Brian Moore. Very sad.0

65 is far too young and he was a rugby man through and through, but he was a dreadful, incompetent commentator, on a par for awfulness with CK.
Sympathies to his family.0 -

Meanwhile, further south...
It's difficult because the TV cuts away to the reply and the commentators talk over the ref-mic. However, If you listen hard to what he's saying, I think Monsieur le Référée has a point...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence
- @ddraver0 -
Except he won't have appled that at all earlier in the match, or ever in a previous game.
He then ignored the blatant obstruction by the AB 9 at the scrum.
