You aren't a good sailor then and you need more practice.
I have raced and sailed in the Solent and Channel for years including overnight races and have only ever had two near misses - both of which should have been avoidable, really.0 -

Sailing Uma I particularly like...I did wonder how they learnt the sailing/navigation stuff. But then assuming you can keep your phone charged up, you can just use google maps these days ( 🤯 )focuszing723 said:I've seen a few videos on youtube of people who do up old under 40ft sailing yachts. They pretty much learn how to sail by themselves testing the boat in their country, then make the trip across the Atlantic. I do admire that.

Yeah no doubt. I didn't have near misses, I just find the whole sea angle just not what I want for sailing.shirley_basso said:You aren't a good sailor then and you need more practice.

The radio, all the big boats etc. Not for me.0 -
Yeah, I've watched that. They have done really well to explore the World on a tight budget from the proceed of youtube, sponsors and product placement. That's a good point, great as a backup as well. I like the way they get their energy from solar and using the electric motor to generate power under sail.ddraver said:

I also have seen one where a French guy who lived/worked in America built a wooden catamaran sailing yacht in his spare time. When it was complete he sailed it back to the Mediterranean with his son and some mates.

I'm pretty sure there's already a football thread.
In other sports news, it looks like INEOS will take another AC team in 2024 for the 37th edition. Excellent news0 -

Football is neither an 'other' sport, nor is it worth following in my view.0

Anyone going out to sea ( particularly off the west coast of Scotland) in a boat with or without sails, needs some idea of what they are doing otherwise they will very soon need a helicopter or the RNLI.Dorset_Boy said:
I suspect many owners of said yachts have no idea how to actually sail them!bompington said:Hanging out regularly on the coast of Argyll means you get to see a lot of very nice yachts sailing around.
But I don't know how many times I've seen yachts motoring up the Sound of Jura in perfect sailing conditions.
My opinion is that these boats should be confiscated and given over to the use of people who would actually appreciate them.
(this one is clearly OK)0 -
Agreed. The RNLI do an amazing job, I'm full of respect for them, but they get called out way too often IMHO going to sea is not a walk in the parklesfirth said:

So, second 1 day international, India spanked England in the first match after a collapse.
Set 337 to win in the second, England are taking no prisoners. Currently on 261/1 with 14 overs remaining! Stokes has hit 99 off just 51 balls!0 -
Why did you post that?!!!!!0

Bloody jinxed it.

Anyone been watching the snooker?
This Selby Bingham match is an absolute epic.
Selby is an incredible competitor. A player who has made the absolute best of his natural talent through pure grit and dedication.1 -
Anyone watching Sail GP?
I saw a few people posting about the Americas Cup... but Sail Gp is excellent.0 -
England had engaged in another classic batting collapse, triggered by Root going first ball of the day, quickly followed by two more lost wickets. Also traditional for England to be undercooked and terrible in the first test of a series.0

Anyone think NZ would have declared with a 270 run lead in Stokes and Butler were playing?0
-
Yeah 2 years ago against the Aussies they would have changed the order and gone at them.0

Anyone been watching The Hundred? Other than a few gimmicks and garish graphics I'm not really sure what it offers in cricketing terms that Twenty20 doesn't. I only saw the second innings last night and it was a bit of a bore fest. Tonight has been a bit better but still not really anything you don't see in Twenty20. I like the franchise and draft system but again they could have done that with the slightly longer format.0

How does the bowling work out? Does someone have to bowl a 4 ball over?Pross said:Anyone been watching The Hundred?
