Good signings, interesting to see what Pidcock can do at this level.

I assume Swifts move is off due to Arkea investigation.

I think the Arkea investigation is pretty much dead now.

Is it, I'm assuming the ineos policy is still the same, no involvement or association with doping.

I think that was a Sky corporate policy. Brailsford was happy to pick Millar for GB. And Ratcliffe has said he's not interested in what someone might have done years in the past. I doubt they'd hire anyone with a proper doping sanction though. Which teams do these days?

Conor Swift has extended for two more years at Arkea-Samsic. Was announced in July. Was the idea that Ineos might buy him out?

I don't think the policy ever went so far as to say they'd not sign a rider who'd been on a team that was under investigation. There has been nothing to suggest that Swift is in any way involved anyway.

But, as already pointed out, he's under contract for another two years.

Dave B said in a telegraph interview they are interested in him, so I think that's where it's come from.

Who's leaving Ineos to make way for their 5 new signings? Obviously froome and I assume wurf. Is Golas retiring? Who's out of contract?

Do they have a full squad now?

Kiryienka was on the 2020 roster but retired earlier this year I think?
Knees is 39 so you'd imagine he might be done.

Basso, Moscon, Geoghegan-Hart, Ganna, Knees, Sivakov, Narvaez and Wurf are all on contracts that expire at the end of the year.

You'd think there a few of those they'd like to keep, and they have a habit of announcing contract extensions very late in the year so they have probably already extended some of them without announcing it.

I think teams can have bigger squads next year due to Covid, so they may keep anyone genuinely out of contract on for another year

I'd expect Moscon, Knees and Basso to be released. Sivakov and (particularly) Ganna will be given decent pay increases and will stay. TGH will hang around but on roughly what he was on before. Narvaez is a decent up and coming sprinter but don't see how he fits in at Ineos. No idea about Wurth.

I'd love Sivakov and TGH to go somewhere else but think it's unlikely.
  • Wurth was signed as a stopgap because Kiriyenka retired. I imagine they're good for roulers without him.

He's still primarily an Ironman triathlete and was trained by Tim Kerrison prior to joining Ineos. So he may stay around as a guy who can fill in at the smaller races. He's also big mates with Froome so might go to Israel.

It was more that Kiriyenka retired after the season had started, so there was a space in the squad free. They could well keep him on, but I'd guess they were looking for a more permanent solution.

INRNG saying they have a matter of weeks to do it to meet UCI criteria for next season.

Interesting article on him in a recent ProCycling mag - I didn't really know anything about him, apart from when he ripped up the Kona bike leg, so it was a good insight.
He's also quite matey with Porte it seems (both Tasmanian) so may well stay at Ineos - the flexibility seems to suit him and his contract will be pocket change to them.

Apparently Lotto Soudal are not renewing the following:
    Jelle Wallays
    Tosh Van der Sande
    Sander Armee
    Nikolas Maes
    Adam Hansen
    Brian van Goethem
    Tomasz Mryczynski
    Remy Merts
    Rasmus Iversen
    Johnathan Dibben

With CCC and NTT looking like they are heading to the wall, a fair few riders are going to be without a contract at the end of the season.

He was on the Thomas/Rowe podcast. The story goes Wurf was a semi-retired cyclist doing very little and in early 2017 Froome was training in Australia ahead of the Herald Sun Tour with Kenny Elissonde. Then Owain Doull, who was about to do the Tour Down Under, had his appendix burst and Elissonde replaced him. Froome prefers to train with someone so Tim Kerrison phoned up Wurf who he knew from their rowing days and got him involved. As a result Kerrison offered to coach him.

Damn, would be sad to see Hansen go, although he is 39 so maybe about time... Apparently, he's vowed to race in 2021 https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/adam-hansen-feels-cheated-by-halted-coronavirus-season/

Dibben is only 26 and has some reasonable results, be a shame if he didn't get picked up as a domestique.

UAE could do worse than pick Hansen up as a road captain for Pogacar.

I suspect Dibben has the GB track squad to fall back on if needed, especially in an Olympic year

I’d be surprised don’t think he’s ridden track at top level since he won the points race in 2016 worlds. And GB have released some similar type riders recently so not sure if there’s a spot.
