I really don't understand that signing. He hasn't looked like a GC threat since he won the white jersey, and must surely be behind Bernal, Sivakov and Carapaz for GC. He doesn't strike me as mountain train material either, so what's the point?

I'm guessing they are hoping that the more structured Ineos approach will bring out the qualities that got him to 4th on the Tour.

This is old news from June but I don't think it's been covered here yet. Team Sunweb have signed 17 (yes, seventeen!) year old German wunderkind Marco Brenner for 2021. The next Evenepoel?
  • Anyone who has kept an eye on the Tour de Limousin over the past 4 days shouldn't be surprised by this. The only thing that young Jake Stewart did wrong was one of those really embarrassing celebrations, for finishing second on stage 1.

I’m looking forward to the Yates bro’s going head to head in different kits so Kirby can tell them apart and then announce “finally! We have an answer to who’s better - Adam or Simon. There’s going to be an awkward atmosphere at the family Christmas table, that’s for sure...”.

That doesn't seem to be a factor at all since the sponsor change. They'll use him as mountain canon fodder. The way the team has worked in recent years they've had some mountain support that takes a few days off in the Alps but does the hard graft in the Pyrenees and vice versa so Yates' issue with surviving 3 weeks is less of an problem.
  • I think Yates move to intravenous will be interesting. Will he toe the line? I’m not sure.

Depends what he's been told the line is, but he can be under no illusions that he'll be the man for GTs, at least not in the short term.

BTW your autocorrect is doing weird things.

Couldn't work out if it was autocorrect or one of those 'really funny puns'.

The tour may be late but it still comes with a silly season it seems...

He was on holiday here in Chiang Mai over the winter with Antwan Tolhoek. Tolhoek was urging Oomen to join him at Jumbo back then.

It's quite interesting seeing the tide move back from sunweb being the top dog dutch team a few years ago, with all their novel methods, to Jumbo/Rabo.

I remember a couple years ago the Dutch avondetappe lot would always have a sunweb guy on showing their latest innovation - there was always a small assumption they were much more cutting edge than the big jumbo/rabo boys.

Doesn't bode so well for Groenewegen.

Real shame he's not in the Tour this year.

Sunweb seem to have made a conscious decision to invest in youth. Their roster for 2021 is ridiculously young. There's some great potential there too.

Prompted by seeing Ilnur Zakarin on the Tour startlist.

As seems likely, if CCC do fold at the end of the season I wonder what team he might end up at...

And a year before his contract was up, too. Can't really claim it's because of a bad season this year, so wonder if there are other currents there. Not necessarily nefarious ones, either - teams change their focus all the time.

There's obviously a falling out there. Not taking him to the Tour was a little strange. I realise Hirschi did well today, but Matthews would have challenged both days and tomorrow, and on a climbers course a Green Jersey candidate.
