Meh, they would be half the price if they were made in China, bygones.

I think the more salient point is how do you project authority on a Country with the second largest economy and military budget, one which produces the products we all rely on and are using right now?

This will change, quite rapidly, especially after corona.

The world was heading in this direction anyway, but a focus on resilience will be a priority.

You say it as if you know it will happen, where is your evidence to support this theory? What counts is what turns up on container-ships and planes, that's the fact of the situation.
It's literally what all leaders are talking about.
Again, lets see that happen when global companies are chasing the bottom line.
Given that any western company, when it's too big or inconvenient for China get chased out, it is not likely that Western companies, apart from maybe a handful of luxury firms, will see China as a serious opportunity like they did 10 years ago.

That ship has sailed with Xi's reforms. We're in a different place now where China is, essentially, the new Evil Empire, with the US & Europe ripping themselves apart with the centrifugal forces of serious economic stagnation/depression in a democracy.

That all sound swell, but lets see where your next fridge,TV...is made. Keep tapping away on your Chinese made Iphone.
Mine was assembled in Czechoslovakia, but whatever.
I'm pretty sure if we did an itinerary on your house...I won't ram it home again.
I've got a china tea set made in Czechoslovakia!

My portable bose speaker was manufactured in mexico, my VW car was assembled in Brazil, my oven was assembled in Turkey, and my dishwasher was assembled in North Carolina, no less.

My work phone was assembled in SK. My laptop in in the US. My daughter's toys were all made in Europe. My sofas were made in the UK, my rugs in Iran, dining table & chairs in Germany, lightbulbs in Poland.

    It goes on.

The main thing I get a lot from china is garlic and ginger.

Hoping maybe @focuszing723 has forgotten about this thread now.

This is somewhat difficult to get your head round. A list of countries writing an official letter to the UN praising China for locking up Uighurs. Have a look who is on the list.

I'm sure tagging him in a post will help with that.

The US has a list of countries that always vote with them at the UN e.g. Palau - population 20,000, but its citizens have the right to live and work in the US, and the US Navy gets to use its waters.

I imagine China has a similar set up. Although, seeing Palestine voting for detention without trial of muslims is harder to understand.

I get that China buys a lot of influence, but still, seeing Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia lining up to not just not mention the suppression of the Uighurs, but actually praise it for doing so...

Isn't it just a letter praising authoritarianism though? Which makes more sense given the states listed.
It is similar (but opposite) to the defence of free speech by democracies. We allow views we find abhorent to be expressed because we enshrine free speech.
This is enshrining authoritarianism which likewise has consequences of some outcomes you may not like. I guess you could praise their consistency in defending authoritarianism over a minority group despite that minority group sharing your religion.
    It's a strange world.

I guess it is more important to their own legitimacy of rule to defend authoritarianism. Defending the minority group would be hypocrisy.
