Finally a thriller which invariably had to involve Pakistan, they never seem to do straight forward matches.

The bigger story is SA managed to not completely choke! They gave it ago mind but fell over the line.

The Aussie batting is looking scarily good now, after slightly shaky open games

Then they go and lose their last 4 wickets for 1 run….

At least they're doing it at the right end of the match.....

That Australia New Zealand finish was fantastic - best finish of the tournament.

Netherlands have Bangladesh 70/5 chasing 230, looked like they were way behind what they needed but taking regular wickets

England actually starting like world champions against India, surely it won't last....

    Good start from England. 28-2

Kohli out for a duck. The silence around the ground was deafening...

England still absolutely all over it, where has this been?
  • So who's got any confidence that England can get 230ish to win?

I have a little. Not a lot but I'm hoping the improvement in the field will carry over to the bat.

I reserve the right to come to my senses if we're 4 down in the first 10 overs....

Edit: That sound I can hear? I believe it's reality crashing down....
  • So who's got any confidence that England can get 230ish to win?

    Probably about 100 too many.
    Root lasted 1 ball.
He’s been the most useless of a useless bunch.

At least the men's CX world cup starts shortly.
  • Ali looks like he's the first to play with a straight bat. These India fast bowlers are deadly.

Stokes was brought out of retirement to much fanfare and has done nothing, he'd have been better off having some family time and getting his knee fixed.

Got an edge off a straight bat haha.

    Shami's 3-5 off 5 overs is crazy.
  • I thought I might have been overly pessimistic, but it turned out that I was spot on.

  • At least the next world cup is 14 teams not just 10 so England should qualify.

So that's three more teams waiting to win against us then.
  • It is an interesting question of whether we would have qualified if in with W. Indies, Ireland and Holland

Probably as we'd have been playing competitive cricket. It just seems that the 50 over game has been neglected in the schedule and 2nd XI line-ups used.

According to today’s commentary, depending upon where next hosts Pakistan finish, the first 7 or 8 teams automatically qualify from this competition.
England currently rock bottom of the table.

That's the 2025 ICC Champions trophy, not the next WC.

World Cup 2027 is in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. SA and Zimbabwe qualify, plus top 8 in the world rankings in 2027. The remaining 4 slots come from a qualifying competition.

Are the crowd singing 'are you England in disguise?'
