Offshore holding company using the sponsorship to offset tax liability for the ult ben owner who happens to be a professional athlete by any chance?

It's sad that he's become a charity case.

Still think it's hard to know where he's really at.

Heard somewhere, probably Friebe, which on reflection makes sense, that the older riders did much worse during lockdown than the younger guys.

That and the illness previously I think still has hidden his real level.

  • WIll Fotheringham made the same point about older riders, writing about Cavendish here: https://lacourseentete.com/cav-and-pat-putting-the-band-back-on-the-road/

Not saying he could have won, but Cavendish's leadout was a mess. Merlier won by a distance, but it could and should should have been a lot closer. Cav should take some confidence from that.

So he is now sprinting again?
  • That leadout was a stinker, for the last 5 k they were all over the place.

He did well to get 2nd tbf

He hasn't even been within touching distance for a very long time, so that's definite progress.

Cav rides Coppa e Bartali, where he's reunited with Brian Holm for the first time since 2015.

There's a nice interview with Holm here (Danish)

Watched him crash on some 2nd tier Belgian race that Eurosport had on last Sunday.

He didn't seem sharp/up there if you know what I mean....

Sad joke? The guy contracted Epstein Barr Virus and still hasn't recovered. Maybe he'll never make it back to winning ways but I think he's earned the right to decide for himself when to retire or to at least get to a position where a team is no longer prepared to give him that chance.

Apparently Cav is now race leader after the team time trial.

And it's the 18th different stage race he has led.

I thought there was some sort of ban on split stages? Or is that just in GTs?

Tiz has uploaded Rai's highlights if anyone is interested.
Looks as if there was a big crash just behind the leaders as they were heading for the sprint.
