How long have you suffered from Veganitis?

3 years, 7 months, 11 days, 3 hours and 26 minutes not that I'm counting.

Gave up eating the 4 legged beasts 20 years ago, but the winged and finned ones suffered for longer. :)
I think I could give up meat but not fish and I certainly couldn't give up dairy produce.
Everything in moderation I say - I have cut down on red meat consumption hugely and I do make more and more vegetarian meals.
I used to fish quite a lot and loved dairy, but surprisingly don't really crave either. I think over time, your gut bacteria changes and cravings change (gut-brain axis). I agree that an everything in moderation approach is sensible. A vegan diet isn't complete without supplements (B12 mainly), but I do it for maximum environmental impact more than anything else.
I actually quite enjoy it. Also, it keeps bmi in check without ever restricting food intake.
Yes, the environmental foot print of beef and milk is huge and this does have an influence on my intake but also vegetarian meals leave me feeling less stuffed and sometimes, more energy in the morning - particularly after beef of some description.
However, I think food waste is as big an issue. Mrs P and I sit down and plan the weeks meals every week and our waste is minimal. I compost the left-overs.

Should have some interesting dishes for this thread over the next two weeks.

Erm - more Polish dishes that are pleasing to the eye?
Indeed. Masjer might need to avert his eyes.

I thought that the Scandewegians have the monopoly on dodgy looking food (Kalles Kaviar?) but I was wrong.

Lutefisk's taste is definitely something else

Generally speaking, people say lutefisk tastes mildly fishy, with a soapy aftertaste and a hint of ammonia on the palate, though there seems to be a lot of variation of its description based on whether people are fans of the stuff or not.

    I can take it.
I went to stay with a friend and his Polish girlfriend. She asked if there was anything I didn't eat, at the time this was just pork. First evening meal, pork pierogi. She made so many of them, I had to eat them. Very tasty.

Pork pierogi isn’t eaten much in this region. The potato and fried onion pierogi is rather moreish. Might be ok for you without the burnt butter lathered on top.

I don't think I'm missing out not eating lutefisk. Anything with a soapy, ammonia taste
ain't happening. It sounds a lot like that buried rotting/fermented shark delicacy from Iceland(?).

It is a buried rotting/fermented white fish delicacy from Sweden.
I don't think even the Swede's like it. It's just traditional Xmas eve food.

Chips look nice but they’d be better on a plate rather than in a cup.

I think they would go soggy in the sauce.

MIL is a brilliant cook but has a dodgy ticker and is slowly killing herself with booze unfortunately so a lot of eating out as she doesn’t feel like cooking.

Slightly unappealing looking but a rather tasty marinaded venison in a creamy mushroom sauce.

Some variety of Steak Tartare? One of the few things apart from oysters that has given me proper gut rot.

I’m assuming this is before that tiny starter was cooked.

Nope. And actually bigger than it looks. Salt, pepper, Maggi, lots of mixing and plenty of bread.

    I’m not overly keen tbh.

Lovely big lump of fillet steak. I would have happily sliced off a bit and fried it butter and garlic but no, minced the bloody lot.

It looks like the bits they put in the surgical trays after Katie Price’s breast reduction. ;)

Spanish lentil stew for the past two days. Feeling decidedly windy this morning.

@masjer does the body get used to eating pulses regularly.

No. It’s best if your partner has no sense of smell.
