Bahrain rider took a large cross-field detour there.

    Haussler, according to Ned'n'DAve

They've also been chuckling about Declerq, I think, who was taking a load of time, caught up to the protest, then had to get dropped a second time. Rather unfair if you ask me, but just goes to show how much work the LR is...

So 50km and a tear-gassing into the stage and we have a break of 8.
Alaphilippe, Barguil, Valgren the most interesting names in it.

Why don't they just send out Hinualt on a derny 1k out?

I'm serious, he love that kind of sh1t. Gets his aggression out gives Shamu a break.

I mean LA doesn't really want to be messin around talking to stabilizer kids. Him and Hinualt job done.

Peloton aren't convinced this is the final break of the day, looks like a few others want to get across, Sky haven't managed to shut it all down yet.

Michelton Scott are chasing despite Impey in the break, looks like they want to give him a helper. Pozovivo tries to jump.

28 man break inc Valverde got away, Sky aren't allowing it I think. Kwiatkowski was in it but has dropped back.

I know that this descent is where Froome supposedly laid to rest for good the suggestion that he is a poor bike handler but, at the risk of invoking the opprobrium of the forum, in my opinion, he showed balls of steel rather than good bike handling skills. Going fast downhill does not equate to being a good bike handler. If I was a confident descender,* I'd be looking to not allow Sky to dictate the pace of the descent as they too often get away with doing, and try to force a mistake. It's a longshot but probably the best hope of Roglic or Bardet to put Froome under pressure.

Still no break, but Demare and Kristoff are off the back.

This stage could get savage now, there are 70km done without a break, so getting it away and giving it a buffer looks a little tricky. If there's no buffer then GC racing may be on for the bonus seconds.

Caruso off the front alone with 10" and a lot of looking over his shoulder for company.

Well, I did say this stage was set up for a very long battle to get into the break.
Wasn't think quite this long, though....

It's very hard going but at least Sky aren't having to drag the bunch yet.

Is this a French put-up-job to knobble Thomas and Sagan?

If I was heading into the third week with three mountains at the back end of today's stage, I would be stressing out if I'd just been pepper sprayed.

Someone pointed out that Simon Yates was at the Mitchelton press conference yesterday, and now Adam Yates's form seems to have returned.

(The someone was joking, not actually suggesting a switcheroo)

It seems French police can't deal with big events... Euro 2016 was an utter disaster, the Tour is often plagued by accidents of all sorts caused by the public...

They can't, they have very out of data tactics.

  • Is this just a ploy to lure Froome and Thomas into burning too many matches. Or is this a dangerous move that Sky need to cover fairly quickly?
