Pics on itv fairly conclusive, in the old days the gendarme just used to take out their batons and beat the shit out of folk!0

Stereotypically classic French police action causing more harm than good. A bit harsh on the gendarmerie as they do a good job most of the time, but I can't help but let the Daily Mail reader in me come out on that one...2015 Canyon Nerve AL 6.0 (son #1's)

Did the farmers not get the agreement to show what they wanted from the helicopter cameras or something?
Too early to be protesting against bears and wolves.0 -

Sagan was having his eyes washed out. Think it was probably everyone. The guy who was being held by the polis was just by the side of the road as they went past.0 -

Allegedly farmers were protesting, attempt to block the road. A policeman sprayed a protester with pepper spray. The wind directed towards the riders.0 -
The Gendarmerie were excellent at the stage we saw - helpful, and suggested where we should go to get a good view - but then it was the flat one from La Baule - so early on before too much hoo har - and the riders were going at a fair lick...
Our little Slowbike loved it - loved the caravan more though ... need to get one of those horns for my car!!0 -

So shouldn't be too bad.

Now passing celebratery display by farmers in field.
Looked like riders close to incident caught some spray, probably 10-20. Most were fine and used the stop to have a break0 -
So, to summarise, the gendarmerie protected the riders from the hostile farmers by pepper spraying the riders.0
-
Why don't they just send out Hinualt on a derny 1k out?0

Looks like they had only just got the hay bales out of the road when the riders got there.
Getting a faceful of pepper spray doesn't seem like an ideal start to a long day riding in 31 degrees.0 -

In a battle of puns, I can't stand losing. You?
Meanwhile, with the outbreak of rain and people protesting about farming stuff rather than Sky, does it feel to anyone else like a stage has been pasted in from an entirely different Tour?0 -

It seems French police can't deal with big events... Euro 2016 was an utter disaster, the Tour is often plagued by accidents of all sorts caused by the public...left the forum March 20230
