Nico Roche to forget finishing 14th in a GT and work for another rider...

Will make you a bet that his final position will be double figures...

...with the caveat that Richie Porte hasnt taken the entire GC group down and out tripping over a leaf or something...

If there was ever a rider that needed to learn to enjoy team success over personal success...

Think Blythey will get a ride somewhere. The rest of them are journeymen though, so yeah - I'd be worried

Good point - should have said journeyman or unproven. I suppose Blythe also fits the 'journeyman' category anyway. They're all f***ed!

TBF he's been quite open about having shifted to being a domestique ever since he moved to Sky in 2015. I don't think he's spoken of being a GT contender at BMC, even if he is their best placed rider in the Vuelta currently.

I thought Delaney said he had funding for the team for 4 years

Liz Hatch saying on Twitter that the riders all found out via Twitter.

    Sounds like an absolute shambles.

A right böllöcks-up. Vanity project turned sour.

Back in 2016: "Delaney: We're aiming to create the first sustainable cycling team" https://www.independent.ie/sport/other- ... 16350.html

I remember raising an eyebrow at that statement at the time

Plenty of us were sceptical when they launched. viewtopic.php?f=40002&t=13074546&p=20036800&hilit=aqua+blue#p20036800

Shame for the riders though. Hope they find new teams...

Why would people raise an eyebrow at the ambition of creating a self sustaining cycling team?

The current model is so insecure it doesn't work. Granted, mistakes were made in the application of this project, but I think the ambition should be applauded.

I would disagree with calling it a vanity project too

Still hold that opinion after they pulled out of the ToB, effectively ending the team from today, and robbing the riders of a last opportunity to showcase their talent?

"Four years funding" becomes less than two full seasons. Why? Because the business plan was crap, the website was shoddy, the advertising for the website was poor and the expectation of race invites was based on nothing but ill-conceived optimism and an idea of how things "should" work in an ideal world (even then there are arguments that plenty of teams should rightly be ahead of them in the queue).

That's a vanity project. Not because a self-sustaining cycling team can't be done, but because it can't be done on wishful thinking and blagging it.

The Martin Shkreli of cycling it seems...

Unfortunately likely without the happy ending.

Having got around to listening to the CP interview, I must retract this.

Sounds like Nuyens played him like a violin and 3T really didnt step up to the plate, I can slightly see why he just didnt see any realistic way of continuing.

If I was Adam Blythe I'd be looking at trying to get on the corendon circus team. If I remember correctly aren't they looking to step up to Pro Conti? Plus with Van der Poel on the team they would no doubt get some invites to the classics which I think Adam would be happy with.

my understanding of the Aqua Blue site was that it was to act as a portal for other retailers / brand manufacturers, rather than as a retailer in itself - so they wouldn't buy and sell stock as such, merely act as a virtual 'shop window' and presumably take a small fee per transaction. So in effect an Amazon marketplace type set-up - I could have mi-understood this of course, which I suppose is part of the problem - it was never very clear what 'Aqua Blue' was.
Would need to be doing a huge amount of transactions to fund the € multi million required for a PCT or even more for a WT team. You can applaud the ambition but seriously question the business plan.

You're right on the concept. But I think they got the technology wrong. I put my brand on there (Shutt Velo Rapide), Le Col did too, and others. It was a bit of an effort. The technology is pretty clunky. Hours of work for little or no return. It was a good idea, badly executed.

Literally had to google Dan Pearson.. showed promise early on but has graduated from u23 without any wins and one podium in a minor race sounds like a journeyman to me - at least Dunbar is still u23 and has some decent results

Wout Van Aert not happy at all with the merge with Roompot. He’s already signed with lotto jumbo for 2020 but he wants out of his 2019 contract so he could join sooner.

Yeah, well... If I was him I'd just want to head to Jumbo too. That AquaBlue article on CN suggested that he's looking to get out of his contract next year... that's one factor that killed the Sniper/AquaBlue merger.

Interesting that those involved in the team don't seem to be blaming Delaney.

Also interesting story about Williams-Crelans there, if true. Makes it sound like they screwed Aqua Blue over.
