    @ Tangled metal:

Why would you want a black chain? Then you wouldn't know when to change your bike.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I'm on only my second bike in 30 years. Actually third bike, but that got nicked so I don't count it. Oh and a freebie bike I got given, don't count that either.

Anyway I reckon you get the idea that I tend to keep bikes for longer than the original chain.

Talking of which, an industrial degreaser takes at least 2 passes to get my chain clean. But when it's clean it does look good. Almost a shame to put any lubrication on it.

You see?! That's the reason you are not in the right forum.
    ...industrial degreaser...

Petrol. Simple. Very effective and readily available from all good petrochemical product suppliers.

If the bike does not sit at a perfect tangent to the centre of the earth in the stand, it'll be life threateningly critical.

Sorry it's a machine also known as a parts washer. Water jets spraying hot water and a degreasing agent onto a turntable holding the parts. It works well on machining/press oil but bike oil and crud on the chain is not as easy to remove. Cracking piece of kit though not cheap. Also I'm only allowed to use it just before the machine gets emptied and cleaned up. The degreaser is not that strong by then.

I've used a degreasing machine lots of times. The one is used most was called a Jizer Mizer but anyway, what you said re-affirms my recommendation and use of petrol to clean bike chains and parts.

  • Petrol is great for cleaning. I used to work at a tuning outfit and we had a spray Lance fed out of a jerry can of petrol. Awesome but oh so dangerous. The drain off was used every Friday for burning off all the waste rather than having a bin.
  • Used Jizer for years on bike parts and bikes - unbeatable value for money, works really well. Rocking.

I hadn't opened this thread until now as I wasn't really interested in reading about a kickstand. But then I saw, 11 pages! How can there be 11 pages on a kickstand

I'm not sure a kickstand is good thing for supporting pages.

If there are too many pages on a kickstand and that kickstand is at an angle then it will slow down the rotation of the Earth.

How many is too many? Well, 11 and counting...

This and there is lots of evidence to prove it whereas there s little to no evidence to prove the earth is any other shape than flat.
