Anyway, a podium of Froome, Porte and Aru in some order looks likely at this time

Quintana doesn't look to be at the races, does he? Bardet didn't seem to be doing too badly though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the podium again.

Plus his close friend being killed 2 days ago. Not sure his mind is on the game anymore,

That moment when a conversation you had a day ago suddenly makes sense.

Caught the vivé le velo summary.

Things I noted: Bakelandts riding very well.

What colour was Aru's bike?? A purple brown?

Gilbert looks less tanned in his QS kit than his Belgian champs kit.

I thought Brit coverage was quite parochial but this guest on vivé is only interested in riders from in and around Gent!!

It is meant to be a deep red like the cross of the flag of sardinia - but it looked more rusty purplish today; although I like the colour - it is a bit different.

And Gilbert just rocked that Belgian champions kit - him wearing anything else gonna look lack lustre

Oooo cocky interview with Martin - chirpiest I've seen him.

You'd think today would suit him.

Gilbert spent 3 hrs in doping control on stage 3 because he was so dehydrated he couldn't pee...

Aru’s paint scheme, a thick toffee apple red, is inspired by the flag of his home island, Sardinia

Of no interest whatsoever but the hotel I am staying in tonight has hansgrohe taps.

Until seeing them I had no idea who hansgrohe were.

Remember Quintana is a 'final week' man so not surprising he didn't go with Froome yesterday... he'll be a threat in the final stages.

BMC had a strange day, played at being Sky then decided the Lanterne Rouge was more interesting leaving lil'Richie with his team mates Froome and G. By the end of the race he'll be getting on the Sky bus with his buddies and not realising til they get to the hotel and he doesn't have a room.

Dan Martin's a crackin' rider and he's pretty sure of himself: “The team is on a roll, we are the best squad in the world, which you can see by taking a look over the victories and list of results since the start of the season.”

Wallace Aru flew up... we need to reassess Astana, does he have the team to get to the finish in yellow or is he basically on his own?
'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP
  • Enjoyed that. Be interested to see the riders form when they hit the proper mountains (especially Aru). Froome should get stronger, not counting Quintana out yet. Strange from BMC really.

Anymore info on what happened to Henao and his disappearing act, did he blow or ease off? Portal intimidated in an interview that he'd told a few to knock it off. Landa and Henao will be crucial in the high mountains but not sure Henao is in the same shape as last year.

The climbs on Sunday should properly find a few out if they're out of form

Once you start looking, you will probably see them everywhere now.

They do make exceeding good sanitary ware fittings.

  • Latest Cycling Podcast has dece analysis of this stage

    In summary:

Fabio looking great, maybe enjoying coming into the race in the shadows which suits him
Sky not looking as dominant as usual on the stage
    Whither Henao
What on the earth where BMC doing
    LRP - lacking grinta?
Froome looking on same level as Aru etc rather than - as usual - a step above
Dan Martin - in the form of his life?

I buy the fact that Aru has come to the race pretty rested after his injury, and being No.2 in the team must add some motivation to perform.

But as Rick would say, how big is his tank...?

    That's a bit of a personal question!

I tipped him to win the tour in a chat with one of my mates. He'd have won the dauphine if he wasnt riding for fuglsang.

  • What I take from yesterday, is that barring accidents Froome is going to stroll it, not least thanks to his descending.
It'll be all over by next Friday, if not earlier.

Before the first mountain stage. It's a climb, but not long or high.

    Sunday's a big day.

Henao did very little racing in the run up to the Tour. I suspect they will be utilising him mostly in the final week and the Vuelta where Froome has often lacked quality support.

No - it says "This video is not available", hence the "disappeared?" question. I can't see any of it!
