Apart from the Nukes, what has been seen is that Russias military is very much outdated.

All Putins Willy waving airspace and territorial water probing etc. now looks very silly.

The kit is good. Always has been. Some of it has been ahead of western kit for years. However, their planning, organisation, leadership, training and tactics are just appalling.

About to start Red Famine by Applebaum - a Moscow destruction of Ukraine an order of magnitude bigger than this effort, for now at least.

There is a lot of beef there.

blimey, bet thats a fun read.

crack on with that Rick but please don't post your interpretations on here - enough stressy stress as is on this thread.
Famine caused somewhere on the spectrum of deliberately by Moscow and certainly deliberately exacerbated by Moscow to starve Ukraine to the tune of 3.5m dead or so.

    A genocide basically.

This isn't the first time Russia punishes Ukraine for having its own ideas.

Have you thought about reading slightly cheerier material every so often? Does wonders for one’s soul and general well-being.
I find the idea that in certain situations otherwise rationale and healthy humans can both individually but also collectively be unimaginably awful to other humans really interesting.

This is presumably because I have lived a life of remarkable comfort so it is quite a distant concept which I can analyse and explore without tearing my metaphorical hair out.

Consider my general negativeness as coming from a place where I assume the good stuff is a given and so requires little or no attention paid to it. It's a sort of base line or natural optimism.
what does that mean? stop using words that don't mean anything.

Rick - it us here. Not Harry and Olivia, middle management PWC and their sprog Monty.

You don't have to try and prove anything to us.

Doesn't the Belerussian military have an even worse reputation when it comes to capability than the Russians?
Yup. Abitshit is the technical term.

Just seen on disclose that the French have been selling military equipment to the Putin regime since 2014 until 2020, I don't know how good this site is but certainly hope this is wrong. https://disclose.ngo/en/article/war-in-ukraine-how-france-delivered-weapons-to-russia-until-2020

Given the state of the Russian army it seems France may have played a blinder!

Hard for us in the UK to get too outraged about who other countries sell arms to isn't it?

The arms business is dodgy. It’s a business, they want to make lots of money.

My uncle worked all his life for a company that made range finders for tanks. During the 70s and 80s he sold them to any Middle Eastern country that mainly had Centurion and Chieftain tanks. His passport was altered so that the other countries didn’t know where he’d been. He’s very old now, so I don’t think Mossad will mind.

Can I ask which company? Armoured vehicle gun laying and optical sights were part of the repertoire that I was involved with...

I'll return to my poker analogies. Putin is playing high stakes but the chips aren't his own - the chips are the lives of real people and the reputation his country.
Targeting Putin and his money/reputation sits way more comfortably with me than killing his pawns.

Just had a chat with my brother - he works for a tech start up, headquartered by Silicon Roundabout. They have a team of tech developers of 12 guys in Ukraine, with most of them based in Kyiv.

Two of the guys have always enjoyed flying drones - one of them got into drone racing (I didn’t know that was a “thing”), the other just flew them mainly for photography stuff. When my brother’s company last heard from them (end of last week) they said they were flying drones from dawn to dusk for the military, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are assisting with identifying the targets that can then be whacked by NLAWs etc.

Yep: Bluff cove air strikes by American planes firing Spanish missiles:

While unloading on 8 June, the British ships were attacked by two waves of A-4 Skyhawks from the Argentine Air Force's 5th Air Brigade, each of them loaded with three 500 lb retarding tail bombs of Spanish design.
