Do you mean France? Argentina was a major consumer of French military hardware back then. Mirage III fighters, Super Etendard attack aircraft and associated Exocet ASMs. To be fair to the French though, Argentina already had this stuff before the Falklands conflict blew up and I think they stopped supplying Exocets once it had started..Pross said:

Who sold the Saudis the clusterbombs that are killing Yemeni children?
Who sold them the landmines?
Who sold countless African regimes military weapons, police riot equipment, etc?
Who trained their troops?
Yup, you're living there.

Yep, I was saying it shouldn't be a surprise that France sold weapons to Russia that are being used against another European country. From memory they carried on supplying Exocets initially until a bit of pressure was applied.imposter2.0 said:

Yesterday’s analysis from the ISW (Institute for the Study of War) via the BBC:
The think tank also says Ukrainian forces on Thursday appear to have inflicted heavy damage on Russian forces around Kyiv, and repelled Russian operations in the Kharkiv region.
It notes, too, that Ukraine's air defence continues to be effective, having shot down 10 Russian aircraft on Wednesday alone.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia may have expended nearly its entire store of precision cruise missiles in the first 20 days of its invasion.
Meanwhile, low morale is being reported among Syrian recruits, including several cases of self-mutilation to avoid fighting.
Many mercenaries see deployment to the region as a chance to desert and migrate to the EU, according to Ukrainian intelligence.

Good demonstration of the two projectile flight patterns of a modern anti-tank system like the Javelin i.e along / up / straight down on the top of the hull, or just straight at the vehicle. In this case the weapon is the Ukrainian designed Stugna-P.

It's not a sport, guys.
I don't think I know what's happening there now. At the start I had the sense we were getting actual news, now it is so chaotic it feels more like competing propoganda. Which means it is probably not going as well as we think for Ukraine. And we don't think it's going all that well anyway.0 -
The pictures on the BBC news last night from Kharkhiv were very sad. The resistance is astonishing but the destruction is huge.0

It's not difficult to filter out the nonsense. There are plenty of think tanks and respected analysts who are supplying solid information. It's their job. It's not all Wayne from Benfleet and his anti-vax Tik Tok page. For example - the always informative Prof Michael Clarke (ex RUSI) was on the Today programme earlier:First.Aspect said:It's not a sport, guys.

Ukraine is "humiliating" Russia on the battlefield and "wiping the floor with them in terms of world opinion", says a UK military expert.
Prof Michael Clarke, former director of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) think tank, says: "The Russians are making almost every tactical mistake it is possible to make."
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, he explains: "They [Russian troops] look like forces that were completely unprepared, that hadn’t thought through what a major campaign might look like.
"The Ukrainians are stalling the Russian advance in all areas and even operating now quite effective counter attacks. The Russians are losing a lot of equipment and troops."
Prof Clarke says Ukraine has a "Nato standard" battlefield command and control system, built with help from Nato countries since 2014.
The attack on an plane maintenance plant in Lviv this morning makes it "clear the Russians are going for the infrastructure that is keeping Ukrainian aircraft in the air", he says.
Striking the western city just 70km from the Polish border is also "an attempt to frighten the west out of helping Ukrainians as much as they have been", he adds.0 -

Also you can get regular updates from the MoD and US DoD - the same updates that the news outlets use (amongst others)

Depends whether or not one believes the reports from various intelligence agencies, since they all paint a far bleaker picture for the Russians, than actual news outlets.
Plus it’s not in the media’s interest to report in an overly optimistic fashion, as it never sells as well.
Yet you think things are going even less well for Ukraine."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

You either accept the definition of 'proxy' war which was discussed earlier - or you don't. If you don't, then come up with an evidence-based alternative definition.
Using the existing definition, however, Mr Panetta would appear to be wrong in his assessment. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that a US Gov official has misconstrued something. But if it's all you've got and you're desperate, then I can understand why you posted it.
The 'basement' comments are rather pathetic and the sort of thing that milemuncher used to post when he realised he had nothing else.

This isn't domino theory and Russia isn't attacking Ukraine as part of some global ideological battle, or as a way to improve Russian global power.surrey_commuter said:

Russia is not a global player. It's 140m people and has the economy the size of Spain ( well, pre war anyway) and military spending on a par with the UK.
It is a regional player, and this Ukraine war is, in many ways, a peculiarity of the region - the region is one of the bloodiest regions in history.
This is not a proxy war between two superpowers. It's not even a war with superpowers on either side.0 -
For Ukraine, this is all about Ukraine. For America, it clearly isn't.surrey_commuter said:
