You do realise that civil servants work for the state and aren’t tied to a political party, don’t you? I know a few civil servants across a number of departments, vast majority aren’t Tory.2

yeah, but why let that get in the way of a good rant?kingstonian said:You do realise that civil servants work for the state and aren’t tied to a political party, don’t you? I know a few civil servants across a number of departments, vast majority aren’t Tory.

I imagine the Syrian mercenaries will end up leaving Ukraine the same way that the Chechens did - feet first...MattFalle said:.

I heard that most civil servants are remainers. Just sayin'...MattFalle said:
not that big a deal to leave your country, get across two countries, get another train then track down the embassey, join the massive queue, fill paperwork to bourgeous tory scum civil servant then wait there ad infinitum?john80 said:So we started of with a claim that the train did not exist. This seems to have been not true and a train does exist which some are claiming is free and takes 29 minutes. I don't mean to be funny here but I would get on a free train to do some paperwork to get to where I want to be. Having got out of Ukraine it is not that big a deal. But yeah #fuckthetories.

True - but the Chechens would likely have behaved in the same way, given the chance (which they weren't)...MattFalle said:but its what they do while they are there that is the issue

Was surprised to see Generals getting killed as you tend to think of them being well away from the action but then I read that 78 British Generals were killed in WW1 (and also surprised how many Generals there are in the British Army today even after severe cuts).0

Did hear commentary that the generals are only in the firing line as its going so badly/morale is so low.Pross said:Was surprised to see Generals getting killed as you tend to think of them being well away from the action but then I read that 78 British Generals were killed in WW1 (and also surprised how many Generals there are in the British Army today even after severe cuts).
I think ideally they'd be kept further away.0 -
I'm sure Matt will be along in a second to tell me I'm wrong 😂0

they've pushed all the Generals forward because they believed that they needed to be closer to the action to guide and motivate their troops.Pross said:Was surprised to see Generals getting killed as you tend to think of them being well away from the action but then I read that 78 British Generals were killed in WW1 (and also surprised how many Generals there are in the British Army today even after severe cuts).
theres also a high probability that if it was going according to their plans they wouldn't be so scared of mad vlad slotting them in a Kremlin cellar and wouldn't have felt the need to go so close to the front..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

tbf though, mercenaries can be a pain - they see things not going their way and they will just skidaddle to go and earn another paycheque another day.....

If I was an Assad Syrian mercenary and I had access to social media I'd be thinking 'f*ck that'.0

Interesting thread. It seems mood may be turning in Russia.

Is that as significant as it sounds?
That is to say, is the off ramp (that's for RC) Donbas and not even the Crimean land bridge?
Struggling to believe that to be honest.

I doubt you'll be seeing those two on Russian TV again anytime soon...0

True. I read some of the thread, which suggests that this prog would have been pre-recorded and screened before transmission...rjsterry said:

Thing is, I can't speak Russian. And I can't see the video. So for all I know we are discussing a Russian clip from 5 years ago about Chelsea.0

They made reporting on the war from anyone that isn’t state news illegal…0 -

This doesn't seem terribly 'diplomatic'. And that's a good thing.

The UN is a completely pointless organisation these days. It was bad enough in the former Yugoslavia, useless during the pandemic and we had the farcical situation where Russia, as a founding member, was able to veto any security council resolutions.2

Maybe this current situation will prompt a rethink...
...though I doubt it. What to do when one of the permanent members goes rogue?0 -
Yep. Does seem massively redundantPross said:The UN is a completely pointless organisation these days. It was bad enough in the former Yugoslavia, useless during the pandemic and we had the farcical situation where Russia, as a founding member, was able to veto any security council resolutions.
