    Isn't that a regular train, not a Eurostar and certainly not free as claimed. Hasn't it also been proved the centre in Lille for visa applications doesn't exist either? I'm finding it difficult to keep up with the number of lies about this.

    All French trains are currently free for Ukrainian nationals.

    It is a regular train, and so what. 29 minutes is less than Wimbledon to the Passport office.

    So we started of with a claim that the train did not exist. This seems to have been not true and a train does exist which some are claiming is free and takes 29 minutes. I don't mean to be funny here but I would get on a free train to do some paperwork to get to where I want to be. Having got out of Ukraine it is not that big a deal. But yeah #fuckthetories.

    Specifically, it was the Eurostar train which does not exist, when UKGov said it did. I don't think anyone is arguing that you cannot catch an existing SNCF service from Calais to Lille.

    As Imposter says, the claim was BS. I don't think you can catch a Eurostar from Calais to Lille. I've seen that Eurostar were offering to carry Ukrainian refugees for free, but the British government is making it difficult to get a visa when other countries are doing what they can to make things easier. Davidof knows more about French trains than me, I admit I had no idea the French had made all trains free to Ukrainians trying to get to where they need to. Kudos to the French for that.
    This came about after the home secretary no less claimed to have opened a visa application centre in Calais to help Ukrainians, when they had done no such thing. It's not just a case of #fuckthetories, Conservative back benchers are criticising them over this. Even Amber Rudd has criticised their response.

    I'm happy for them to stay in France. I thought tory brexit britain was some kind of unlivable hell hole so I wouldn't want to send people there. sounds worse than what they are fleeing tbh.

    As far as I'm aware there is no Eurostar station in Calais, and the nearest is Lille.
    IF Eurostar are offering free transport to Ukrainians, and the same is true of SNCF, then Lille makes a lot of sense as the VAC base, and no point in Ukrainians going to Calais to jump on a ferry, unless they are travelling by vehicle.

    Someone at the Home Office is clearly very ignorant of the rail network.

    None of it excuses the difficulty and delays in obtaining a visa though.
