Obviously any "peace" deal that is made has to have guarantees on both sides but I tend to agree that what Russia is asking for is not a million miles off being a *possible* resolution.

I accept Ukraine can't accept disarming - that would be ridiculous given it borders Russia. But giving up Crimea and the Eastern provinces - whilst not something they want might be something they accept if pressured by the West. Let's not forget some of us were expecting either a complete annexation of Ukraine or Russia taking a large part of it.

If Russia also want a say in internal Ukraine politics then that's again unacceptable but I'm not clear if they are asking for that.

Ruling out joining NATO and other blocs - well it wasn't about to join NATO - or the EU as far as I know.

I think it's at least a basis for negotiation - there might be compromised that can be made but I was surprised that if genuine Russia was offering any kind of peace other than complete Ukrainian surrender and installing a puppet govt as Belarus, Chechnya etc. Of course that may reflect the fact Russia knows it can't win and hold Ukraine militarily.

Basically it's about looking at the realistic alternatives rather than what you'd want in an ideal world - I don't think Crimea becoming Ukrainian again is realistic unless Russia suffers a total military defeat.

Stunning argument being made on BR Mr Fail - Ukraine has no shortage of people willing to fight but they don't have the equipment, so you supply the anti aircraft systems and i'll deliver them.....

Reports that Ukrainian SF destroyed a massive amount of Russian helicopters on the ground in a raid last night at Kherson airfield. Tory Boy Wallace mentioned it on LBC this morning as well:

you said you want military action but you aren't prepared to put your boots on the ground.

get ypur boots on the ground and we'll listen to what you have to say.

The Ukrainians really are becoming funnier by the day. If it is not farmers storing significant assets in their barns for the future it is just blatant mocking of the Russians. Long may it continue.
The one about captured Russian soldiers being able to go home if their Mum turned in person to collect them was a classic.

No, but the time it would take means the price would be high, and its not us paying, by and large.

Had the radio on in the car earlier and someone was complaining about the cost of living and saying they had to use red diesel (they lived somewhere very rural) to be able to afford to take the kids to school.

Yeah it was weird. The host kept reiterating it was a crime. Missed the start so I don't know if she identified herself.
