Am I the only one surprised by the amount of people on social media who act as though they know things that have somehow not been reported by traditional news channels?

Twitter seems to be a case of finding someone who says what you think / want to believe.

What’s the cliché, truth is the first casualty of war?

My thinking is that if news organisations with people in country can't verify what is happening on the ground then some guy on his mobile phone hundreds of miles away is even less likely to know anything worthwhile.

I don't believe the footage of the farmer stealing the tractor.

    It's funny though

Interesting to see what havoc Anonymous can cause now they have a new cyber enemy. They’ve already brought some Russian govnt department sites to their knees.

Most interesting is how they’ve said Putin’s secrets aren’t safe. If they were to release to the Russian public proof of the wealth he’s amassed, it could be what finally turns them against him.

There’s a whole series of YouTube videos taking you around his palaces and explains his wealth.

Putin was livid about it and tried to kill the guy behind them.
    What more proof is there?

I don’t know, but maybe we’ll find out. Or perhaps it is other secrets he doesn’t want his population to hear of. Either way, Anonymous are a formidable enemy lurking in the shadowy corners of the internet.

During the occupation in order to be allowed to do anything you were forced to sign a paper declaring allegiance to Germany.

    He refused.

    We

Abramovich has issued a statement saying he's handed the care and stewardship of Chelsea to the charitable foundation and trustees to try to protect the club.

    Diddums.
    What a pathetic response, Rick.
Whatever rumoured links he has to Putin, at least he's trying not to drag his football club down, and cause yet more upset.

Really? With how he accumulated his wealth I won’t be shedding any tears.
So you'd be happy for the club, staff and players to suffer due to Russia's invasion?
Yes. Yes I would. Similar to the Qatari World Cup. Reap what you sow. No sympathy.

Should your club have ceased to exist when it went bankrupt leaving debtors?
My football club is currently in administration - to be fair so what if it gets liquidated start over. Chelsea wouldn't cease to exist it'd just cease winning trophies.
It may also have to start again several divisions lower.
Yes but does that matter ?

Given Russia's interference in US elections, it would be totally ironic if Anonymous were to successfully bring the Russian govt. down.

Somewhat worrying how Putin will react to things apparently (hard to know the truth) not going to plan.

CNN had footage of a thermogenic (I think) rocket launcher in Ukraine. Googling this thing if they chose to use it against urban areas it'd be horrific.

Some suggestions from military types that although we’ve seen some spectacular tactical victories for Ukraine - it’s not as bad from the Russians as we’d all like,

    A bit awkward for BP?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Indeed though I suspect the likely buyer will be Russian anyway. Who else is gonna touch it?

So they can always sell it in rubles and just watch billions burn while the currency tanks.

I find Putin's stance that sanctions are unjust and essentially threatening nuclear strikes against a bit inconsistent. He has launched a war against a sovereign state that has no ability to threaten Russia.. I know you can't just protest in Russia but how committed are the Russians to financial ruin for getting Ukraine back. Germany is going to put nuclear energy back on the table and many others are going to plan decade long projects to take them away from russian dependence.

Apparently it is straight out of the Russian military doctrine playbook.

If you wanted to be cynical, no-one being prepared to buy would suit them. They satisfy the PR side by showing they are trying to offload their share but actually get to keep it and can get out when the market is better

This is the thing that worries me most, if Russia continue taking losses the gloves will probably come off and they won't even bother trying to look like they are aiming to avoid civilian targets.

Edit - Frank Gardner saying similar to this now.
