It's not looking like the walk in the park you said it would be for Russia though is it?
never was going to be a walk in the park and i don't believe i said so. nothings a walk in the park nowadays as we all know.

Tbh, I'm actually quite surprised at really how rubbish the Russians are. This how thing has, amongst other things, destroyed the Russian military's reputation.
i've been wondering what the russian forces on the ground have actually been told, seems unlikely that it was: "your mission is to invade our peaceful neighbour ukraine, where you may well have friends and family, kill them and replace their democratically government with a putin-friendly dictator"

whatever they were told, if the story is breaking down, perhaps their commanders aren't too keen on pushing things either

I expect there will be plenty of airlines flying in the direction you want to go that are not from countries siding with Putin at the moment.

i'm gathering they have been told that the Ukrainian people wanted them there to take back their country from the governing pigs comitting genocide against the Russian civpop backed by the western pig dogs etc etc and there wouldn't be any fighting.

tbh, the Russians seem to be throwing a lot of Phase 3s in so they won't have much of a clue ideologically or militarily...

This is why we need competent people in positions of responsibility.
    Regarding Putin's comments on nukes.

"Now, the Kremlin has suggested comments from Foreign Secretary Liz Truss were the reason that Russia put its nuclear forces on heightened alert, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.

"There had been statements by various representatives at various levels about possible conflict situations and even collisions and clashes between Nato and the Russian Federation," said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Vladimir Putin.

"We consider such statements absolutely unacceptable. I will not name the authors of these statements, although it was the British foreign secretary."

Read back the Russian claims and assess their competence. The west bashers love this. In what way has Liz truss's competence got anything to do with Putin essentially going to the Russian equivalent of defcon five making a massive world ending mess up more likely. The UK government has made no claims that they are going to threaten Russia with nuclear strikes. This is embarrassing support for a mental dictator.

Yes, but what about their other crimes? What about the human rights in their countries? Also, are they fully supporting Ukraine or just remaining neutral because it is on the other side of the world?

I find Guantanamo Bay morally objectionable, but avoiding all US businesses is quite hard.
  • From a fair few videos doing the rounds, and comments on the radio, it looks like there are roaming squads wandering the countryside with NLAWs creating havoc for the Russians. All you need are a few lads waiting for a convoy, take out the front vehicle, take out the back and then get your mates in to do the rest.

Yes I'm with you here. There's a bit too much whataboutery.

Phase 3’s are soldiers that have gone through basic training, but that’s about it. So whilst they know how to shoulder a rifle and march in line, they come with minimal experience and certainly aren’t battle hardened.

Undoubtedly the WFA will follow the FA tbh....

be utterly weird if the English WFA was basically one of the 10 or so only sporting organisations in the world to continue to play Russia

It's all under the FA now - the separate women's governing body merged years ago so yes the England women will be refusing to play Russia.

I'm assuming, but haven't checked, that the FAs stance includes boycotting the FIFA compromise of a Russian Football Federation side akin to the IOCs fudge letting Russian athletes compete. If FIFA backs a Russian FA team over Poland in the men's qualifiers what will it do if England says it won't host a Russian FA team at the women's Euros?

Sensible tactics - in the end when you are outnumbered and outgunned, some sort asymmetric warfare is needed.

I heard that the Ukrainian forces in some cases waited for some of the heavy armour to pass and took out the logistical support following behind as an easier target. The stories of Russians running short on food and fuel seems to support this to some extent.

    #ambush101

we were told to teach do ambush drills ages ago - ie what to do if someone gets caught in one.

We, as DS, all looked at each and "and what's the point of that? you're slotted, end of. no amount of running around is going to help you".

Looking at that table picture makes me think we are all doomed. Dictators look smart till they start something from which they cannot comprehend the ramifications. He is probably asking them if they bomb the banks will they release the money or other such quality questions.
