Ideally we need a way out for Putin.

It’s unlikely we can get rid of him, so if he can get out an save face we should work on it (though clearly not giving up an inch of Ukrainian ground)

Would presume he will go in the same way as every dictator before him. Live by the sword die by the sword.
He’s got nukes so we need to find a way to get him from escalating to that point one way or the other. Can’t rely on him being deposed before he gets nukey
He'll be removed by someone within Russia not by the west.
What the West is putting in place now may well be the beginning of the end for the Putin regime, but it will probably take years. As you say, in any event it will be an internal job rather than an external one, although would be quite handy if we could have a Russian remake of 'Day of the Jackal' to speed things up.

I wonder how much talk of nukes it will take before panic buying kicks off again.

Saw a guy fill up his car and 3 containers with unleaded yesterday.
Is he planning to set himself on fire as the nuclear shock wave hits him?

Probably just being prudent. I was filling up the wife's car after filling mine in the morning. Anyone see the price of oil going anywhere but up?

I am not sure. You have no chance.

The EU, agreeing as a group to buy weaponry, seems a significant development for EU countries interested in 'more Europe'

In the Hollywood version Seals would have dealt with Putin already.

*Gallows humour. Even more "humour". Just told the wife about Putin preparing nukes. "But what about our Christmas vouchers?"

Incredible how Putin’s actions have persuaded Germany to change its approach to military investment, something its EU and NATO partners had been unable to do in 50 years.

Sweden sending military kit to Ukraine too. They’ve not done that since pre-WW2.

It does indeed. Who is paying for it?

FIFA are going to dance on the head of a pin with this. No one will play Russia in WC qualifiers.

As I sit here now my guess is that Russia will qualify by default, because, well it's FIFA and FIFA are politically neutral and morally non-existent. And this will create a huge headache in Qatar, which is a sports washing exercise itself, because the conflict will still be going on.

UK govt should hit all the FIFA lads who are mates with Putin with the same restrictions the oligarchs get

I think FIFA are going to end up having to throw Russia out of all competitions. But it will take them a lot longer than other sports. Because Gazprom.

UEFA have some headaches as well with Russian clubs in European competition, and a healthy dose of Gazprom themselves.

I never understood the policy in the first place, insofar as it was a reaction to a disaster involving a reactor located on a continental fault line by a country in an extremely geologically stable region.

It's been observed that, for all the talk of Russia troll farms and sophisticated disinformation operations, they're getting outplayed by a very online comedian.

EU countries agreeing to sent fighter jets

The EU may not be 'nimble' but they pack some punch when they swing.

I think it’s a cultural hangover from the Cold War anti nuclear movement.

How many EU countries fly mig 29s?

Iirc the jets in question are thought to be a mig something or the other used in Slovakia & Poland which Ukrainians would be familiar with

Think I posted a twitter thread (when this was all a crazy dream) about how Putin was far more worried about Ukraine joining the EU rather than NATO.

NATO was never going to attack Russia, but imports to Ukraine needing a CR label would be devastating to Russia...

Am I the only one surprised by the amount of people on social media who act as though they know things that have somehow not been reported by traditional news channels?

Twitter seems to be a case of finding someone who says what you think / want to believe.
