What the West is putting in place now may well be the beginning of the end for the Putin regime, but it will probably take years. As you say, in any event it will be an internal job rather than an external one, although would be quite handy if we could have a Russian remake of 'Day of the Jackal' to speed things up.TheBigBean said:

It’s unlikely we can get rid of him, so if he can get out an save face we should work on it (though clearly not giving up an inch of Ukrainian ground)"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -

Probably just being prudent. I was filling up the wife's car after filling mine in the morning. Anyone see the price of oil going anywhere but up?rick_chasey said:The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

In the Hollywood version Seals would have dealt with Putin already.

Incredible how Putin’s actions have persuaded Germany to change its approach to military investment, something its EU and NATO partners had been unable to do in 50 years.
Sweden sending military kit to Ukraine too. They’ve not done that since pre-WW2.0 -
It does indeed. Who is paying for it?tailwindhome said:The EU, agreeing as a group to buy weaponry, seems a significant development for EU countries interested in 'more Europe'

As I sit here now my guess is that Russia will qualify by default, because, well it's FIFA and FIFA are politically neutral and morally non-existent. And this will create a huge headache in Qatar, which is a sports washing exercise itself, because the conflict will still be going on.

I think FIFA are going to end up having to throw Russia out of all competitions. But it will take them a lot longer than other sports. Because Gazprom.rick_chasey said:

UEFA have some headaches as well with Russian clubs in European competition, and a healthy dose of Gazprom themselves.

It's been observed that, for all the talk of Russia troll farms and sophisticated disinformation operations, they're getting outplayed by a very online comedian.

Think I posted a twitter thread (when this was all a crazy dream) about how Putin was far more worried about Ukraine joining the EU rather than NATO.
NATO was never going to attack Russia, but imports to Ukraine needing a CR label would be devastating to Russia...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Am I the only one surprised by the amount of people on social media who act as though they know things that have somehow not been reported by traditional news channels?
Twitter seems to be a case of finding someone who says what you think / want to believe.3 -
