Not sure if I'm reading that right as I seem to be seeing it differently to you. Aren't they just saying if you're here already we're going to let you stay longer? I don't think it is anything about who they are prepared to allow in going forward.
They’re announcing this because they’re not announcing what they should be, which is visa waivers for all Ukrainians and routes to help refugees.

Are they or are you just making assumptions?
Im not making assumptions. This is not currently being done.

So what’s wrong with announcing what is being done for those Ukrainians already in the UK?

I have been following this thread with interest for quite a while.

I hear what you are saying but isn’t it a bit of a moot point at this juncture, seeing that Ukraine has closed it’s airspace and are not allowing folks of fighting age to leave their country?

Because it is f@ck all obviously.

This is total war. They’re literally showing the nation how to make homemade firebombs.

Any Ukrainian fleeing Ukraine is a refugee and should not need a visa regardless.

    That is literally international law,

Furthermore, if Britain makes out it it supporting the nation then that is part of it.

UK pushed for Ukraine to be part of NATO. That’s to its credit.

They should have the same approach to migration to their approach for things with guns

    As of yesterday.

"The UK has stopped accepting visa applications from Ukrainians stuck in the country, meaning there is no safe and legal route for them to seek asylum in Britain unless they have British relatives."

More could be done to help.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Fair enough, in that case I agree it's a disgrace although with this Government you wouldn't expect anything else. Hopefully we'll take our share of refugees but I won't hold my breath.

Is the British Embassy in the Ukraine open?
If not, how could anyone apply for a visa from within Ukraine?

That said, stating we are more than willing to accept refugees from the Ukraine would help, and should be done.

But you're making a thing of the UK not accepting visa applications from the Ukraine.
Given they can't get here yet, a decision and statement might yet be forthcoming, but you simply love to kick everything about the UK.
Initially our efforts need to be to providing shelter and food for them in the neighbouring states.

So why are you so incensed about the UK not issuing them?

Notice quite a few army trucks moving on the motorway this morning and there so seemed to be a bit of engineering kit getting moved out of the stores at Ashchurch when I went past on Thursday.

Because the Uk is insisting they do need Visas

Understand? Hence the tweet I posted.

The Tweet was just saying that those with existing visas can renew them. I'm not sure how you are extrapolating that out to potential refugees. It's coming across of you being blinded by your bias.

To be fair they do share a border and a lot of those fleeing will probably have friends or family there

Not sure if you've seen the one of some Ukrainians coming across a broken down armoured vehicle with a load of Russian soldiers hanging around. They've run out of fuel; "Shall we tow it back to Russia for you?"

That's probably one of the more reassuring things and an issue with a fast initial advance.

Indeed. Poland has a lot of cultural history in common with Ukraine, to the extent that many Ukranians have a sort of "landed immigrant" status to live and work in Poland.

Poland as a nation is worried. Understandable, given the historical echoes.

Click on the ‘U’. It removes all non military traffic. As I’ve said, you’re only seeing the stuff that has a transponder on. You’re not seeing what they’re fuelling. Any of the RAF or USAF RC-135 types are working out what’s going on inside Ukraine and quite probably coordinating on the ground with anything NATO. The ones with the call sign ‘NATO’ are monitoring and coordinating airspace.

The really interesting stuff appears at night.

Thanks - that's good. Will have a look tonight as recommended.
