I shoot in Sony's RAW format but there aren't many editors that read it. I did have some software that converted to 'normal' RAW but deleted it as it is a work laptop.pblakeney said:
If you were shooting RAW then you will be able to pull the details back out of the shadows. NB - Always shoot RAW unless you need to share immediately as the camera dynamic range is much less than the human eye. (Or use HDR if available.)Pross said:
This is more what I was getting straight from the camera no matter what settings I was using, the sky is pretty close to how it was but foreground should have been lighter
As an example, here is my shot from my post above as it would be if I didn't pull the shadows.0 -

Thanks, yes that's what I'd installed. It put about 4 or 5 different bits of software on my laptop and I couldn't delete the ones I didn't want without getting rid of the whole thing. I'll download it again when I change jobs and get a new laptop. I don't think the Sony RAW is 'full' RAW either although the files are massive.pblakeney said:Google says - Image Edge?

I’ve not actually used it, but “Rawtherapee” software is supposedly a free converter and editor that might be worth a look.Pross said:

First of 58 graduations at Exeter University this year... they are catching up first on 2020, next week is 2021, then after a week off we do 2022. Then we move down to Truro to do three years' worth there.
Anyway, the campus is looking darned pretty, so I'm in promo mode.

And mine. One of the reasons I got the gig. I'll be up to nearly 300 graduations since 2008 by the time I finish this lot. I guess that would be something like 80,000 graduates.shirley_basso said:My alma mater

You'll have done mine then. Although I didn't get my photo taken and I have to be honest, I don't recall a trumpet solo.0

No trumpet solos - it's all brass ensemble. Depending on the year, you probably got Prince of Denmark's March for the entry of the bigwigs, Charpentier's Te Deum as their exit, then you processed out to Congratulations and Liberty Bell.shirley_basso said:You'll have done mine then. Was thinking of getting up to try to photograph the planetary alignment tomorrow morning but suspect it will be too cloudy and not sure if they'll be more than specks in the lens.0

That’s some cat. Do they do weight watchers for moggies.0

Moody skies here too, there was thunder around when I had to go to pick my daughter up so I took a detour to try to get some lightning from a local viewpoint. Managed moody skies but no lightning then as I was driving home we got a couple of lovely strikes, set the tripod up in the hope of more but nothing except heavy rain. It's frustrating this photography thing!0

Best to think of the time being de-stressing time instead of photography time.Pross said:Moody skies here too, there was thunder around when I had to go to pick my daughter up so I took a detour to try to get some lightning from a local viewpoint. Unless you get stressed by not capturing the photo. 😉
I bet there are people who think fishing is about catching fish. 🤣
Or cycling is about exercise. 🤣🤣The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Anyone know what causes that stripey blurring on the top image? I get it quite a lot0

Nah. I clicked on and viewed in Flickr. Best guess might be crepuscular rays fighting their way through the cloud but barely noticeable.Pross said:The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Just went up a hill with the sheep. Typical Saturday night in Wales. Some great clouds coupled with biblical rain.

Just looked at some shots from a different camera. I like the lion in the top left corner.
