Its a lovely place, did you also go down the underwater viewing platform thing? The drive to get there/back is stunning also, with so many places to go and hike around and see.

That's because it is a fjord.

That is correct. Its named a sound, but it technically a fjord. Which is why the area is called Fjordlands National Park.

We accessed it via ship. I believe the access road is still being rebuilt.

Trying to keep distracted, taken some photos of the bike... (sorry, no full shots, front room doesn't really allow it!)

That would be one of my options should WFH end.
Just to waste some more time, try again with less background clutter. 😉

@Ben6899 Crikey that (pic1) looks like a very long valve
also I quite like the title of the book in the background, well placed

80mm, 50mm rim. Could have got away with 60mm valve if they had been in stock.

Yeh, busy background but I'm stuck indoors.

Love the toning in the brake caliper one, a bit soft key.

Dragged my lazy butt up the long hill behind my home the other evening. Sat there for far too long, a bit dark when I got back, but hey ho...

I can never get the name of the mountain correct.
The shot was taken from the southern approach to Glen Coe.

    Thanks.

I like photographs where you are initially deceived by the scale of the subject. Feels like the first look is just a 2D glimpse of a nicely framed mountain in this case, without much sense of size or distance. When you look again it’s a 3D version where you perceive all that, and get to imagine standing where the photographer was, what the wind might be like, the sound of the place, even the smell.

I’ve a mate who has a terrific eye for framing his photos to do that. He did a trip through the Namib desert a few years ago and some of the images were just breathtakingly beautiful in the dunes.

I'd just dished up my dinner, and I thought I'd pop to the end of the road before I ate it to see if the sunset was interesting. It was. And my dinner was still hot when I got back to it.

Thanks, Ben. Just one of those lucky ones where things lined up, though I had to move quite quickly and take several to get the lucky one. Sunsets here tend to need clouds to make some sort of shape in the sky to make passable compositions, especially now that the owner of my favourite little boat has moved it. Grrr.

Mr Goo. That's Iceland. Top pic is the sea stacks near Vic, on the black beach.
Bottom pic is the big waterfall whose name escapes me.
When did you go? We went in March 2015. 12 of us on a photographic holiday. Enjoyed it tremendously.

Did you get out to the ruined Dakota? Farmer has blocked access now, ever since Justin Bieber filmed a video on it and the place got swamped by teeny boppers.

Went this January. Thankfully got an overseas break in before this crisis. Thoroughly enjoy Iceland. The DC3 would have been cordoned off anyway as two bodies were found in it whilst we were there. Two young Chinese tourists sheltering from the raging storms and died of hypothermia. Poor souls. Not a nice way to go. Wind chill at times was minus 15-20 degs C when we were there.

Don't know if this link will work, but here is the Dakota when we had a superb display from the aurora.

Looks like the BBCode won't work. try this..

  • Thank you. We were up all night running around chasing the Aurora. Temperature was something like minus 10! We went to the big waterfall at Gulfoss and the spray froze all over our gear!!!

    Amazing photo Frank.
Didn't see the Aurora Borealis like that. Went out to the golf course between Reykjavik and Keflavik and froze our buns off for 2 hours to catch a streek of green that lasted 5mins.

  • We were very lucky. It was our last full night, and we had seen nothing in the previous two weeks. This display started before sundown and was still going when we went to bed at 5AM!!!
