Going up to Yorkshire in a couple of days for the Worlds, usually like to take a few photos at this sort of thing. The weather forecast doesn't look too great, so if it is poor, is it really worth trying to take photos? Last time I tried at a bike race in bad weather, the Roubaix stage of the 2014 Tour, I didn't really get too many good shots.

Any simple tips? Should I be using flash for example? Not too keen on the idea as I can't see this is too good from the riders point of view.

A typical style for this would be wide angle from a low viewpoint probably with the lens wide open to get a fast shutter speed.
I’d prefer a long lens to compress things but low light and crowds will be against this.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

One of those lucky ones tonight... at Charles de Gaulle airport... I just had two chances to get the shot I'd hoped for... and the second one worked, before I boarded my plane.

Like the composition of the Autumn scene. The hedge leads your eye down to the right; then the shadows over to the left; then the tree trunk takes you back up to the start.

Well thank you kindly! That one was just on an iPhone whilst on a dog walk. My Canon EOS is a work in progress, taken over the cycling somewhat 😳

I didn’t quite get this right. This on my Canon EOS but on « idiot setting « . The idea was to draw you in through a tunnel in the trees but was a bit rushed (due to idiot dog). Thoughts?

Kind of thing I'd try, with similar results. ;)
Good idea but too many criss crossing branches blocking the path through.

Next time I’ll bring secateurs and tie the dog up....👍

I wanted to experiment with depth of field. Just takes practice I guess.

You probably got that bit. The standard is the main focal point, or 1/3 into the distance.
    Then do non-standard. ;)

My in-laws are clearing out a house of an old friend who has recently died. It appears he was somewhat of a hoarder of various items including photographic equipment. It is all analogue (for want of a better phrase) equipment. Does anyone have suggestions as to where would be good to sell these on, or is Ebay sufficient? The cameras vary from Canon/Nikon/Pentax to a Haselblad and a variety of lenses and accessories too.

I expect it depends on the exact model and condition of the equipment.

The Haselblad could be worth several hundred of even a couple of grand depending on the model.

Have a look at similar items on ebay to get ballpark figures.

Some great recent additions. I need to properly get back into it and start sharing some again - been too busy working on my FTP.

Thanks. It was a watercolour morning. I might tweak this one a bit and get a decent print of it, as I find it rather calming.

  • I bought a (bargain) lens off the 'Bay, spent a bit of time calibrating the focus settings this morning with my favourite subject out in the garden...

Not claiming any special photographical expertise for this one, it's just what the sunrise looked like from my mum's garden overlooking the Beauly Fifth near Inverness this morning. Maybe you needed to be here.

Is whatever it is, reflecting in water? But what's that in the bottom left?
