On Sony at least, I thought the IBIS switches off if the camera detects in-lens stabilisation, or vice versa, but you can't have both running. They usually claim about 2-4 stops benefit max from it.

Strictly speaking IBIS and OIS suit different lenses - the longer lenses (logically!) benefit more from OIS. I haven't got IBIS so can't compare. In theory, IBIS ought to work out a lot cheaper in the end (and at least a bit lighter) but I bet it doesn't work that way.

I love them. Bold as brass. Curious. One of them hops around me when I go doing stuff in the garden. Sometimes I have to stop in case I shovel a shovel load on him/her.

It's not so much the fighting but the murdering (of each other!) that makes them bastards.

Lay off the robins! I love the fact that they hop around me optimistically when I'm digging in the garden, and treat me to bursts of spectacular singing down the leafy lane on the morning dog walk.

Pigeons on the other hand can f@ck right off. All they seem to do is sh1t on the cars and the patio furniture

    Fake news. Surely?
They just look false and the lighting is all wrong. Or am I?

Very nice, Ben and Brian. No photos myself (only a phone to hand), but I did manage to just about see the eclipse through the hazy cloud.

That's a nice one. Although my HX50 goes to 30x optical zoom well, the 60x digital really starts to show on moon shots, in comparison with proper high-end optical zoom. So I think my better moon shots are the more artistic ones, and not the ones in the dead of night, when it's really hard to catch the brilliant luminosity.

Yes, mine is at 300mm and then cropped. You lose a lot when digital zoom comes into play.

The two you've just posted here are really great.

    Wow, that's pretty epic.

You didn't manage to catch the meteor impact as well did you?

    Thanks Pinno!

And thanks Wolfs... didn't manage to catch any meteor strikes, to the best of my knowledge.

Had a pretty stressful week, which should calm after work today... so I plan to set up the tripod again as the sky has been beautiful at dawn and dusk.

There is also a guy in South Africa who freedives with Great Whites and has done for many years so I would say it’s true, the photographer will have used a strobe to bring out any colours at the red end of the spectrum. I also have dvd’s of researchers diving with them and chasing them off as part of that research plus diving with and hand feeding Tiger sharks.

Not all sharks eat you, I have dived with and photographed sharks on many occasions and here I am with everything attached. :)

Oh, BTW, I found my snaps from September 2015's blood moon.... before, & during. Most of the 'during' ones were total failures.
