Does this mean we've got three years of people saying they should send the road race up Rosedale Chimney to properly sort them out?

How do you know someone's from Yorkshire? They'll tell you. Within 10 seconds of meeting them.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

I was chatting to the partner of a colleague a few weeks ago in the pub, and it turns out that he works for Welcome to Yorkshire (or whatever they're officially called). On learning that part of his job is to get involved with scouting out potential routes (and dealing with businesses and communities along the way) I'd got no further than "Se-" when he answered 'Rosedale Chimney?"

Yeah, apparently that happens a lot...

    Surely Lancs can beat it?
Yep. Having been up here on and off for two years now I can honestly say Lancs can beat pretty much anywhere in Britain for sheer enjoyment of riding

Aye, dead chuffed. Chuffed to bits in fact. Always fancied going to a worlds, and now I can.

Excuse my poor attempts at humour.

In all seriousness, it's great news for British cycling :D

Great news, here's hoping it's not too far from round here, but far enough for a decent ride. Holme Moss was just about spot on last time.

BBC Radio Leeds kept referring to it as a second in a triple crown of cycling events, after the Tour, but they didn't mention the third- they can't surely mean the Giro, any ideas?

Yeah, Giro. It's a term not used much these days now that the Worlds is later and the Giro/Tour double is rarely attempted.

Cheers, I had thought that at first, as in thinking they may have Roche on, but it seemed like they were talking about it as being all on level pegging (or implying it).

Should be happy they're just talking about it really- and no mention of a weeks worth of road closures yet!

Trooper lane near/in Halifax is the hardest in Yorkshire. Rosedale isn't particularly hard at all.

Trooper Lane? Call that a climb. Gobler's Knob near Wrigglesbottom. Now that's a climb. 45%. With cobbles. And a cattle grid.

I'd imagine that they'll spread the time trial events around the county, but the road race circuit will be exactly that, a 20 km or so circuit concentrated around one of the conurbations, and I've heard it'll be Leeds.
  • Great ride by Ryan Mullen today. Progressing nicely.

    DD.
  • This is just weird.

The complete lack of atmosphere and absence of spectators has completely ruined it for me. Just can`t watch it for any length of time without having to switch of due to not getting involved in the rides.

What, like the crowd fest that was Rio? And they were great editions.

But this TT needed an extra 20km at least to make up for the parcours.

I'll settle for 50 for a hilly ride. If it's under an hour, pfft.

Plenty more spectators on the Rio courses. Foolish to try to say otherwise.

    Proportionally sure.

    Absolutely, no way.

Halvorsen of Norway takes it. Well deserved as they were the dominant team in the closing 20 kms.

Nice poaching by Halvorsen of Norway - took the sprint away from the Germans who looked far and away best organised of the sprint trains.

Producers must have had fun having Rajabikaboodcheshmeh - with a 20 letter name in the breakaway all day. Had to look up the name cos I was curious what the different attempts of abbreviation were trying to shorten

More Belgians getting ill with the heat.

Body temperature went up to 40 degrees.

Doesn't remember anything about the finish. But I guess it's OK 'cos drugs wouldn't help ;).

So forecast is NNW 9 km/h wind with gusts of 15 km/h, which isn't all that much, but it is at the right angle for echelons down that big straight (see above) so let's keep our fingers crossed.

And it's just on the cusp of being not-dangerous heat wise at 35 degrees "feels like 37".
