I want cav to get gold, certainly after the year he's had already.

I don't think there's anyone at this Olympics I'd like to see win more than Cavendish (Maddy Hinch and the hockey team come close though).

I'd also love to see Viviani get a medal as he's a rare roadie from the old world cycling nations that still loves track.

Good sprints by Marchant and James in these qualifiers.

I'm sure Kenny will be cheering Marchant on from track centre.

  • Becky fastest qualifier and takes Pendleton's Olympic record. She was a fair bit faster than anybody over the final 100 metres. :D
Excellent from Katy Marchant too. Exactly as things went in Newport.

She should be really proud of that and deserves this Gold. Yesterday was tactical, but she has the fastest legs in this Olympics for the women (as I'm sure you know).

Here's to another Gold/Silver for us, hopefully!

You could see she (and Marchant) had that speed endurance that the others were lacking. Hopefully speed will win through over tactics as it did with the men. What she has achieved in the last year is bordering on miraculous, I really thought she was going to miss out on the Games altogether again. BC / Sutton's selections vindicated.

I was going to make a joke about SS' old selection policy for the women when he was at WCU, but I'll avoid that, because it's no joke.

Hansen and Kluge gained a lap, Cavendish got 6th in the end (2nd in the sprint from the bunch).

I only said he managed 6th. He was never gonna do much more in that. It's ok for him.

    Great race from Kenny.
  • Kenny has a funny way of handing the gold to Skinner.

Yep Kenny took that with ease
  • We-ll, Elvis says they're both fighting for gold. Which I think is also clear to 99.99% of us

    Oh it's very clear now.

It was always going to be the coaches' shout. I'm happy to accept I may have been wrong. But there's still two rounds to go :)

In any non-Olympic event, my scenario might - or might not - have been accurate.

Yup. Good finish by Marchant there, the Canadian came out of her line slightly too.

  • Simple qualification for both.
    That's how we like it.

Anyone know why Gaviria got 5th place in the scratch race ahead of Cav?

Yes. Sitting on the back seems to be paying off.
