Are they doing a women's team as well?

    Bravo!

    Astana has a women's team. Sky doesn't.

    Just sayin' :?

Kazakhstan is a secular state. 25% of the lower house is female. Women's equality is enshrined in law.

    Bahrain operates under Sharia Law

Yeah, we can tell from the riders being popped

I only know of Antoshina (Russian) they had already sacked. Do you know of anymore?

How will the women's team ever be successful? Women are allowed to drive. Clearly a Saudi Arabian team will get more practice and win all the races. :?

Nibala really does follow the money, irrespective of a teams morals. IMO.

Well, he is a professional cyclist, not a moral philosopher last time I checked.

But you don't need to be a moral philosopher to see that this is an obvious attempt to sportswash Bahrain's horrific human rights situation.

That being said, if you're a journeyman cyclist struggling for a gig it's difficult to let ethics be a major factor in your decision.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Bit harsh, I doubt many people would let the human rights record of these kind of states stop them taking a lucrative job offer. I mean wasn't it the Saudis who helped them crush pro democracy demonstrations probably using weapons sold them by the UK.

    Ach balls

Are they new sponsors? Another German lotto company perhaps?

It started when he stuck his head in the sand over Astanas drug issues. It's not like he'd have struggled to get a team.

That seems like good news for Ritchie, if they are trying to build a team to support him

 Really!?! I was wondering where he would end up, but I am surprised...

I guess the surprise is cos of the whole blood passport debacle but seems like a good plan to me. He can give the benefit of his considerable experience to Chavez and Yates and I guess will be allowed off the leash properly for races he feels like he can win.

Seems like a good move to me

I think Matthews is off too so I guess he'll get a bit of a go in some of the Classics.

Yeah, partly the BP issue. Just didn't seem the OBE type of 'team player'... but happy to be surprised. He's got the skillz...

    Only just really noticed that.

I know it's a fairly amateur web person taking care of it for them who hasn't worked on any cycling projects before.

In other news, Ryder has retired.
