    Vanmarcke is the current tip

That's what they signed Ward Theuns and Jasper Stuyven for, innit?

Vaniuewkerk was salivating at the prospect of a Flemish trident at Trek with Theuns, Stuyven and Sep on extra time koers last night.

I must admit, all I've seen of extra time koers is the painting on Paddestraat. If you were Stuyven or Theuns and you'd been signed on the basis that you were going to be one of the two hand picked guys to serve and learn with Cancellara for this year then split the leadership/ fight like ferrets in a sack from then on, you'd be a bit miffed to suddenly find they'd spent big on a guy with 2 wins in his career to fill the role too, nee?

    Relapsing? More like recidivism.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Thibaut Pinot to Sky next season, apparently?! His contract at FDJ is up end of the year and a commentator this week mentioned he'll be going there.

Brailsford did say last year that he wanted to try and develop the next French tour winner didn't he, so I guess that makes (some) sense?

Cynical ploy by Sky to get the French media off their backs

If he goes to Sky he won't be riding the Tour (if we take his comments pre-season at face value).

Also maybe a ploy by Pinot to get the French media off his back.

  • Stuyven extends his initial 2 year deal at Trek by a year and, presumably, a big wheelbarrow full of cash.

I vaguely remember Brailsford saying something. Perhaps Pinot wants a move to super organized team having shown some stroppy behaviour on the road towards FDJ. If true, think he'll be a good addition and seems to be improving all round, although not seen him descending recently

Three Cardiff boys in the team now then. Rich must be waiting for his agent to get in touch!

I think it will be 4 Welshman there soon as I reckon Scott Davies will be there within a couple of seasons.

So the conclusion was that they might get a WT team together in 2017. Their concept is to build a cycling team with a bunch of ancillary businesses that generate money - spin bikes, villa holidays... plenty of buzzwords, little concrete signs of a team.

Sky have offered me a two year contract, but I will be staying with Virgin for the forseeable future.

Creating a slot for Riis' new project or this Bahrain thing in the WT? All teams have to sign up for 3 years from 2017 non?

Won't Riis just buy back Tinkoff? Or is that too simple?

IAM cycling will cease to exist at end of this season so a few riders up for grabs

Shame that IAM (and it's excellent kit) will be vanishing from the peloton, although it always felt like a rich man's hobby (folly?). They have some good riders on the payroll - best of luck to them all in finding new gigs.
