    Snowflake has postponed his visit.

On the flip side, IF he felt he was being sidelined with a Parliament in recess visit this could be a shrewd move.

His speech last night is disappointingly normal.

Its like someone swapped the speeches and he just read out what was in front of him rather than rambling and ranting.

I think he hasn't been doing so much crazy stuff the last few days because he had to learn it and practice it. He actually seemed to read it without going off at a tangent and repeating stuff.

Yes. NFT (normal for Trump): 51 lies out of 60 statements. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fac ... 73bc19a389

    So, Sessions lied.

Melissa McCarthy will spin that one easily enough. He didn't meet with the Russians as part of the campaign, he just met with them at the same time as he was a part of the campaign.

(The question was about anyone affiliated with the campaign communicating with the Russian government during the course of this campaign. So it sounds like a lie when he said he wasn't aware of any of those activities. Spinnable, though.)

Ironically, the question comes from Al Frankel.

Much will depend on the 'course of the campaign.' Is that in relation to or during. It's the latter in my view and he lied under oath.

Didn't realise it was a private face to face meeting - unless there is a recording of it there'll be no transcript.

At the moment he can say that he didn't meet with them in the course of the campaign, if he spins that to mean as a representative of the campaign. It's splitting hairs, but will he be prosecuted?

Why a transcript. He denied meeting anyone Russian during the course of the campaign. The Government has confirmed he did. He misled the confirmation committee.

Sessions is obfuscating when he says “I never met with any Russian officials to discuss the issues of the campaign. I have no idea what this allegation is about. It is false,” as under oath he said "I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I didn't have — did not have communications with the Russians, and I'm unable to comment on it." No mention of the type of communication - he just said he didn't have any. Period. Skewered.

Quite. And, in common with other sports stories on here, he's now alternating between can't recall what discussed but can recall specifically what not discussed. He lied to the committee. I give him till tomorrow.

Bear in mind he's the AG and has a duty to disclose. It would have been no issue to say, of course I met with my Russian counterparts in the course of my service on X committee.

Also on the Washington Post, another member of the Senate who was on the same committee as him has claimed that in 10 years on that committee they personally have never had any meetings with any foreign ambassadors.

He seems to have having a nervous breakdown today. Accusing Obama of tapping his telephone lines and also accusing him of meeting the Russian Ambassador. At the White House. During his Presidency.

He is a colourful character isn't he! He has more people debating him than all the other presidents put together I suspect ( barring Nixon and Clinton maybe?). He's not blown up anyone or built THE WALL yet, but he seems to be the gift that keeps on giving to the world media!

    He's a freaking loon.

If his phones were tapped it's because the FBI thought there was illegal stuff going on. It's not the President who taps phones.

So he has basically outed himself as worthy of investigation.

Notice he tweeted this at 5.30 and none of his advisers were there to stop him.

He's really not smart. I can't see him lasting a year.

I was listening to a podcast with a professor of neuroscience and linguistics the other day, and he was saying that what Donald Trump is doing is actually pretty calculated and highly effective - by making these accusations, you usually draw a denial, but a negative statement has the effect of reinforcing/introducing the belief in people's minds. E.g if you went up to someone and said "your wife's NOT having an affair", then you put an idea into their head that might not previously have been there.

The scientist's name is George Lakoff and he's done quite a bit of work on how language shapes our perception of politics, and there's quite a bit of his work on the Internet about the rise of Donald Trump, pretty interesting stuff.

Come on Finchy, you can't seriously think he's consciously saying stuff like that?

    He's genuinely a bit thick.

What he has is a gut feel for what sounds right to fellow, thick, populists. And that's fine, and it works for him.

But I bet if you took his IQ he'd be below 100.

I bet the Washington Post hacks are loving this.

Paddy Power is offering odds of 6-4 for Trump to be impeached. With any luck, he'll take Pence with him and that will surely mean a general election?

Wait a minute, I never said that Trump thought of this all by himself (the strategy might have been devised by his team - Bannon seems pretty clued up on how to appeal to base instincts), but if the strategy is to just keep on the attack, making outrageous, indefensible claims knowing that his rivals will go on the defensive, reinforcing other people's perceptions, then that's something which has been very successful and needs to be countered.

Seriously, go and check out Lakoff's work, even if you disagree with his premise, it's very interesting.

As for his IQ, I'd have to sit down and get to know Trump the private individual, rather than Trump the public figure to work out whether or not he's a bit thick. Just remember, though, that every ridiculous claim, every personal attack he's made in speeches will have been written by his campaign team. And it worked.

No provision for snap elections in the US. So Pence takes over, then he'll go. Then Paul Ryan.

The only 'solace' is that the houses content may be adjusted in the mid terms. But the US is stuck with a republican president for the 4 year term.

Will we ever see him do anything? If he's so embroiled in controversy, accusations, fighting the press and even legal action, what will he achieve? As soon as his Redneck followers start realising that the jobs aren't forthcoming and maybe even a recession (we're due another one) thrown in, his support will wane to the point where pressure will come from all directions.
I don't know what happens then when the American Electorate becomes even more disillusioned. I suppose the 'old elite' take over when 65% won't bother to vote.
Perhaps a break up of the Union? There are currently huge disparities in state law and sentiment, right across the board. What would it take for a major North' South, East West divide? Not a lot I think.

Fixed price. All these markets will be fixed price, there is no SP. Because it's not a race with a start.
