Reminds me a bit of Arnold Rimmer, when he said the Goering's were lovely company providing you avoided talking about politics.

Not many people know it but he was a terrific dancer.

And a painter, there was a painter. He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon! Two coats.

Since this thread has been bumped, might as well toss this in... really, Trump doesn't seem to get the greatest lawyers... I wonder why that would be?

It's worth reading the thread just to see how incompetent they are.

Trump statement on the death of Colin Powell should make him unelectable.

    It won't though.

It is a quite remarkable window into the addled and vindictive brain of Trump.

    Good (full) point well made.
  • Even in that relatively sane interview, he still thinks the 1918 flu epidemic was in 1917 and ended the first world war, and bizarre to crow about how China's education system is so much better than the USA's when he's literally just been president for four years.

You missed him personally creating the vaccines.

He is struggling to stay relevant. I think a wise poster suggested that might be case upthread.

The only thing that interested me about that interview was his volte-face on vaccines, at least as far as his 'base' is concerned. The rest is just the ramblings of a sad (if still dangerous) loon.

It will be interesting to see if his base gets it though, or whether they do the echo chamber thing of now rejecting his ideas as being a conspiracy. Will they be able to compute?

It might be less good that it makes him more electable but if we are interested in saving lives Trump being pro vaccine is good

Those two things might cancel each other out, if affordable healthcare provision became harder under Trump.

essentially it doesn't matter what trump says re vaccines as his base are as thick as pigshit and will believe what they want no matter who says what but more whether the Dems can get Manchin on side and Biden sticks to electoral promises and doesn't lose votes in finely balanced Houses ....

His "base" are tub thumping morons, that's true. But that hard core loony suppport is dwindling. Most worrying is that a good deal of muddle class America is willing to overlook all of his obvious flaws in the interests of their personal taxation.

disagree and agree - thick as pigshit base is still there, just no as high profile in the media due to obvs circs. They're still there, still mental, still braying on about 2A, stolen elections, PizzaGate, etc......

And yup - agree completely re middle classes - earning 50-75k a year, bemoaning taxing billionaires......

I think the lunatic numbers were somewhat inflated by all the mass hysteria that went on.

He's great at mobilizing them to vote, but the republicans can't win on that alone. They need selfish short termist middle classes and some good old voter suppression and electoral boundary redrawing to get over the line.

An interesting theory re the delay in deploying troops at the Capitol on 6 Jan...

    https://www.justsecurity.org/79623/crisis-of-command-the-pentagon-the-president-and-january-6/

Close observers of the events of Jan. 6 have mainly posited two reasons for the delay in mobilizing the Guard. The first explanation is one of bureaucratic failures or managerial weaknesses in the military’s procedures that day. A second explanation is that the military was deliberately serving Trump’s effort to interfere with the election by withholding assistance.

We identify a third explanation: that senior military officials constrained the mobilization and deployment of the National Guard to avoid injecting federal troops that could have been re-missioned by the President to advance his attempt to hold onto power.

With respect to planning for Jan. 6, the publicly available evidence to date very strongly suggests that the senior defense officials’ concerns led them to impose unprecedented constraints on the authorizations and substantive conditions for use of the Guard – Miller admitted as much. Those constraints help explain the substantial delay in sending a first group of Guardsmen to the Capitol. What’s more, the evidence also indicates that the same concerns potentially explain why the Pentagon did not approve deployment of the National Guard in sufficient time – and, indeed, authorized the deployment only after President Trump eventually made a public announcement (at 4:17 pm) that he was not in favor of continued occupation of the Capitol.

i think people also fail to realise how beaurocratic and uttelry utterly utterly inefficient the military is, so them not turning up in time is not very surprising at all tbh.

Bear in mind its also National Guard, not Active.

    The Nordics.
Who also happen to rate highest in the "Who's happiest" and "Quality of life" ratings.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

depends what you get for them - don't complain about crappublic services and roads when ypu pay low taxes.

we pay all our tax and don't mind because we kinda give ashit about schools, hospitals, etc.

anyhow, we're not talking about taxing low/middle earners here, we're talking about taxing the rich and the super rich which, for some utterly unknown reason, the middle and lower earners seem to be throwing a hissy fit about.
