It looks as if the impeachment trial isn't going to conclude today, as they are having a vote on questioning witnesses, given the lies ('contradictory evidence') from the defence last night (who seem to be using a script written by Trump). Could get a whole lot more interesting.

Unlikely but possible the moderate Reps want the evidence to be as comprehensive as possible so that they can justify finding against him.
Currently he’s just a fuck nugget that is simply misunderstood so going against him is too risky. With all the evidence out in the open, they can legitimately turn against him.

And then McConnell's just been laying into Trump - excusing his 'not guilty' verdict on absurd technicalities, one of which he created, by not allowing the vote before inauguration. The US is in a bit of a mess right now. So much so, some commentators are wishing they had a system of government 'like Westminster'. I wonder where they'll get their House of Lords...

It has been noted that this was the most bipartisan impeachment vote ever - the seven Republicans who voted to convict outnumber the total of bipartisan votes for all previous impeachments combined. Seems a toothless system, especially where the 'jury' is blatantly following party lines, rather than the legal arguments - especially given that some of the 'jury' were prepping the defence team, in this case.0 -
