Trump isn’t gonna end up a pauper.

Robert Maxwell? The parallels are uncanny (apart from the dying bit, as things stand).

It would be politically unpalatable for DB to write it off, not just in the US but in Germany also. The damage to their already poor reputation could kill them. They won’t do it.

They only have a few options, recalling the loan early appears the safest option for them at present, but obviously not knowing the contract agreed they may be in breach somehow.

lol damage to the reputation? Can't damage something that's already demolished.

What's with all the chat about his loan? He needs to default before any enforcement action can be taken unless DB wishes to transfer, but that's not very exciting.

I think a lot of people are hoping he goes bankrupt and or that DB have some dirt on him.

    good point well presented.

It would have been mega (maga?) if he would have turned up in speedos, goggles and funny rubber hat.

Lots of suggestions from well connected people that republicans are too frightened by the death threats to vote against Trump

Rosa Parks would be proud of them. If a couple of thousand loons with guns makes them scared they might want to consider some gun control.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election-2020/capitol-riots-ayanna-pressley-panic-buttons-b1786678.html

Sarah Groh, who serves as Ms Pressley’s chief of staff, was with the congresswoman when president Donald Trump’s supporters stormed the US Capitol building last Wednesday.

She told the Boston Globe that she had reached for the panic buttons installed in Ms Pressley’s office as they tried to barricade themselves in.

But, when they went to press panic buttons, Ms Pressley’s staff saw that they weren’t there, and appeared to have been ripped out.

“Every panic button in my office had been torn out - the whole unit,” Ms Groh told the paper.

She added that she could not believe why the panic buttons were removed, and that Ms Pressley’s staff had used the panic buttons in the past, including during drills.

Nor had Ms Pressley and her staff moved offices, said Ms Groh.

Before pointing fingers I think the question is who, and under whoms instruction were panic buttons removed.
Was it just that office, or multiple?

So, Trump's been impeached by the House. The report on the beeb doesn't say what the split was.

Now let's see what the Senate does.

Ok, they're still counting, but at least 10 Republicans have voted to impeach. Only 6 indicated beforehand that they would?

Is it actually possible any of them changed their minds or were swayed by the debate?

Bestest pres ever! Who else managed to get impeached twice?
    Won't come to anything.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

McConnell's saying he won't come back from his hols to hold the trial before 20 January, so it'll fall to the new Senate to hold it. Not sure how much of a difference that will make... maybe they want to make sure he's out of the building before deciding which way to vote.

Means McConnell isn't responsible for kicking him out, but can help make sure he doesn't stand again. And also disrupt Biden's first few weeks.

So from a political point of view he's played a blinder tbh.

Ref DT and his loans from D Bank - isn't the theory that the money came originally from Russia, to prop him up so he could become their useful idiot, and was channelled through DB to make it legit? Or is that all hogwash?

I did read from multiple sources that he doesn't actually own most / a lot of the stuff with his name on it (hotels etc) and that its basically a branding agreement - if the brand becomes toxic there's not a lot of substance (real estate) for Trump Org to actually sell to cover the debts.

Hopefully it will be irrelevant as he'll end up in jail for multiple financial and s3x crimes anyway.
  • A lot of Republicans yesterday basically saying "yes, it's bad that Trump supporters attacked us here, but we can't hold him accountable because they might do it again".

I think you or someone else is confusing DB scandals.

    Yes hogwash.

He is probably in breach of his banking covenants, due to Covid so banks can call in the loans or seize assets. Property is not a good thing to be holding in a fire sale and will go very cheap.
